In homeostatic conditions, the basal progenitor cells of the esophagus differentiate into a stratified squamous epithelium. However, in the setting of acid exposure or inflammation, there is a marked failure of basal cell differentiation, leading to basal cell hyperplasia. We have previously shown that lysyl oxidase (LOX), a collagen crosslinking enzyme, is upregulated in the setting of allergic inflammation of the esophagus; however, its role beyond collagen crosslinking is unknown.

Exploring new oncotargets essential for lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) cell growth is important. Here the bioinformatical studies revealed that Gαi3 expression is elevated in LUAD tissues and its overexpression correlates with poor survival of the patients. Moreover, overexpression of Gαi3 mRNA and protein was detected in LUAD tissues of patients as well as in primary/immortalized LUAD cells.

The jellyfish Turritopsis dohrnii (T. Nutricala) is a cnidarian of the Oceaniidae family that lives in the Mediterranean Sea. It is known as the immortal jellyfish since, through a process of cell development called transdifferentiation, it manages to return to a polyp state.

Objectives: Dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) are essential for reparative dentinogenesis following damage or infection. DPSCs surrounding the blood vessels in the central region of the dental pulp actively proliferate after tooth injury and differentiate into new odontoblast-like cells or odontoblasts to form reparative dentin. However, the signaling pathways involved in undifferentiated and osteodifferentiated DPSCs under inflammatory conditions remain unclear.

Cisplatin (CisPt) is a widely used chemotherapeutic agent. However, its nephrotoxic effects pose significant risks, particularly for the development of acute kidney injury (AKI) and potential progression to chronic kidney disease (CKD). The present study investigates the impact of non-lethal exposure of CisPt to immortalized human renal epithelial precursor TERT cells (HRTPT cells) that co-express PROM1 and CD24, markers characteristic of renal progenitor cells.
