Objectives: To detect the expression of Cathepsin B (CatB) in the intracranial aneurysm wall and its effect to the apoptosis of vascular smooth muscle cells, aimed at clarifying the pathological formation mechanism of intracranial aneurysm.

Methods: From November 2006 to February 2009, 20 intracranial aneurysm samples were collected as the experimental group, and 6 cases of normal pallium artery samples were collected as the control group. Immunohistochemical technique was used to evaluate the expressions of CatB, alpha-smooth muscle actin (alpha-SMA) and Caspase-3. The expression of CatB mRNA was evaluated by real-time PCR. The ultrastructure of intracranial aneurysms were observed by using the transmission electronic microscope.

Results: Compared with the normal pallium artery specimens, the expression of CatB and Caspase-3 both significantly increased in the intracranial aneurysm walls where alpha-SMA decreased (P < 0.05). The mean expression of CatB mRNA in intracranial aneurysm samples was about 3.8-folds than that in control group (P < 0.01). There were excessive apoptotic vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) in the tunica median, and typical apoptotic body were observed in some aneurysm walls.

Conclusion: Cathepsin B may be involved in the formation and the progression of intracranial aneurysm.

Inflammation is a complex factor in the pathogenesis of intracranial aneurysms (IA), but its specific cellular inflammatory factors remain uncertain. We collected two cohorts and measured the representation of vascular inflammation-related proteins using the Olink CVD II Vascular Inflammation Panel. We subsequently validated our findings using ELISA and RT-qPCR.

Medical contraindications and complications pose challenges for electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Most published reports are scattered across various physiological systems and individual disease conditions. This review aimed to evaluate the literature on physiological and medical complexities during ECT and discuss risk mitigation strategies in a comprehensive review.

Objective: This study was to explore the factors associated with prolonged hospital length of stay (LOS) in patients with intracranial aneurysms (IAs) undergoing endovascular interventional embolization and construct prediction model machine learning algorithms.

Methods: Employing a retrospective cohort study design, this study collected patients with ruptured IA who received endovascular treatment at Jingzhou First People's Hospital during the inclusion period from September 2022 to December 2023. The entire dataset was randomly split into training and testing dataset with a 7:3 ratio.

Background: Past studies have reported that vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia (VBD) patients may develop similar arteriopathies other than the vertebrobasilar system. However, the details of these VBD-related arteriopathies are still unclear.

Methods: We retrospectively enrolled patients diagnosed with VBD at two stroke centers in Japan between January 2012 and December 2023.

Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage (aSAH), resulting from ruptured aneurysms, is a major contributor to stroke-related mortality and morbidity. Despite advances in healthcare, aSAH remains severe and often leads to complications such as cerebral vasospasm (CV), cerebral infarction, and delayed ischemic neurological deficits (DIND). Clazosentan, an endothelin receptor antagonist, has demonstrated potential in alleviating vasospasm and its associated outcomes, although evidence of its efficacy remains unclear.
