Published: November 2010

Background: Examination of Exhaled Breath Condensate has been suggested to give information about inflammatory airway diseases.

Objectives: The aim was to compare efficacy and variability in gain of two commercially available exhaled breath condensers, ECoScreen and RTube in an in vitro set up.

Methods: Test fluids containing myeloperoxidase (MPO) or human neutrophil lipocalin (HNL) in addition to saline and bovine serum albumin were nebulized and aerosols were transferred by a servo ventilator to either of the two condensers. Analyses of MPO, HNL, or chlorine were done by means of ELISA, RIA, or a modified adsorbed organic halogen technique (AOX), respectively.

Results: Recoveries of HNL were higher when using ECoScreen than RTube (P<0.05). In contrast, there were no significant differences between the two condensers in recoveries of MPO or chlorine. The spread of data was wide regarding all tested compounds.

Conclusion: Variability in gain was large and ECoScreen was more efficacious then RTube in condensing the tested solutes of HNL, but not those of MPO or chlorine.

We sought to evaluate the effects of a 12-week pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) program on lung function, mechanics, as well as pulmonary and systemic inflammation in a cohort of 33 individuals with moderate to severe post-COVID-19. : The pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) program employed a combination of aerobic and resistance exercises. Thirty minutes of treadmill training at 75% of the maximum heart rate, combined with 30 min resistance training consisting of 75% of one maximum repetition, three times a week throughout 12 weeks.

Sulfur isotope engineering in heterostructures of transition metal dichalcogenides.

Heterostructuring of two-dimensional materials offers a robust platform to precisely tune optoelectronic properties through interlayer interactions. Here we achieved a strong interlayer coupling in a double-layered heterostructure of sulfur isotope-modified adjacent MoS monolayers two-step chemical vapor deposition growth. The strong interlayer coupling in the MoS(S)/MoS(S) was affirmed by low-frequency shear and breathing modes in the Raman spectra.

Indoor environment and health have drawn public attention worldwide. However, the joint health effects and mechanisms of exposure to different types of indoor environmental factors remain unclear. We established an exploratory panel study on indoor environment and health effects among young adults in China (the China IEHE Study) to comprehensively investigate 3M issues, including multiple indoor environmental factors, multiple health effects, and multiple omics methods for mechanism exploration.

Free fentanyl is responsible for its pharmacological effects, but its total concentration is typically determined for therapeutic drug monitoring purposes. Determination of fentanyl concentration can help reduce the prescribed doses, leading to fewer side effects and increased effectiveness. Therefore, predicting free drug concentration in pharmaceutical research is crucial.

Lung cancer is one of the most common malignancy in the world, and early detection of lung cancer remains a challenge. The exhaled breath condensate (EBC) from lung and trachea can be collected totally noninvasively. In this study, our aim is to identify differential metabolites between non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and control EBC samples and discriminate NSCLC group from control group by orthogonal projections to latent structures-discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) models.
