Primary thoracic epidural melanoma : a case report.

Asian Spine J

Department of Neurosurgery, Bucheon St. Mary's Hospital, The Catholic University of Korea College of Medicine, Bucheon, Korea.

Published: June 2010

A 68-year-old woman with progressive paraparesis and altered sensation lasting approximately five days was admitted to our clinic. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed an advanced stage T7-8 epidural mass ventral to the spinal cord, which was believed to be a metastatic tumor considering the patient's age. A highly enhanced epidural mass and pedicle appeared during the MR scan. However, the pathologic findings were compatible with the diagnosis of a primary meningeal melanocytic tumor. Primary epidural melanomas are extremely rare lesions. This case was finally diagnosed as a primary thoracic spinal epidural melanoma.

Background: Adults with spinal deformity (ASD) are known to have spinal malalignment, which can impact their quality of life and their autonomy in daily life activities. Among these tasks, ascending and descending stairs is a common activity of daily life that might be affected.

Research Question: What are the main kinematic alterations in ASD during stair ascent and descent?

Methods: 112 primary ASD patients and 34 controls filled HRQoL questionnaires and underwent biplanar X-from which spino-pelvic radiographic parameters were calculated.

Purpose: To further identify the clinical impact of metformin on the prognosis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with type 2 diabetes who received immunotherapy.

Methods: Stage IV NSCLC patients with type 2 diabetes receiving the immunotherapy from 2017 to 2021 were retrospectively enrolled and divided into the metformin group or non-metformin group according to the treatment strategy for type 2 diabetes (metformin vs other hypoglycemic medicines). The overall response rate (ORR) was primary endpoint, and overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS) and disease control rate (DCR) were secondary endpoints.

Radiobiology Laboratory, Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Atomic Energy Commission (AEC), Damascus, Syria.

Background: Angiogenesis is mediated by endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) derived from bone-marrow. In this prospective study, we tried to investigate the clinical utility of circulating EPCs in lung cancer (LC) patients.

Materials And Methods: Flow cytometry technique was used to assess circulating EPCs according to the immuno-phenotype CD45 CD34 CD133 CD146 mononuclear cells.

Background: Previous research on spinal alignment and postoperative outcomes after cervical and upper thoracic fixation has suggested that clinical and patient-reported outcomes are improved when certain anatomical parameters are maintained. These parameters include the cervical sagittal vertical axis (cSVA), C2 and T1 slopes, and cervical lordosis (CL). For patients with primary and metastatic tumors involving the subaxial cervical and/or upper thoracic spine, there is minimal guidance on how to apply these parameters.
