Background: Identifying lipidomic markers of diet quality is needed to inform the development of biomarkers of diet, and to understand the mechanisms driving the diet- coronary heart disease (CHD) association.
Objectives: This study aimed to identify lipidomic markers of diet quality and examine whether these lipids are associated with incident CHD.
Methods: Using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, we measured 1542 lipid species from 1694 American Indian adults (aged 18-75 years, 62% female) in the Strong Heart Family Study.

An H NMR-based metabolomics approach was conducted to holisticly explore the effect of Xue Fu Zhu Yu (XFZY) capsule (a well-known Chinese herbal medicine) on high-fat diets combined with coronary artery ligation induced coronary heart disease (CHD) model rats. 1H NMR-based metabolomics approach combined with multivariate analysis was performed to explore potential biomarkers, a total of 20 metabolites were confirmed as contributors to the discrimination of model group and sham group. We investigated the dynamic metabolic characteristics of XFZY capsule on CHD rats, lactate, glutamine, pyruvate, citrate, choline and taurine were potential biomarkers of early effect.

Environmental factors, and in particular diet, are known to play a key role in the development of Coronary Heart Disease. Many of these factors were unveiled by detailed nutritional epidemiology studies, focusing on the role of a single nutrient or food at a time. Here, we apply an Environment-Wide Association Study approach to Nurses' Health Study data to explore comprehensively and agnostically the association of 257 nutrients and 117 foods with coronary heart disease risk (acute myocardial infarction and fatal coronary heart disease).

Recommendations arising from the traditional diet-coronary heart disease (CHD) paradigm, which focuses on effects of total and saturated fat on serum total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, may have failed to reduce CHD risk and inadvertently exacerbated dyslipidemia, insulin resistance, and weight gain, particularly among individuals who are older, female, sedentary, or obese. A suitable dietary paradigm must consider types and qualities of fats and carbohydrates consumed, their effects on a range of intermediary risk factors, and characteristics that may modify individual susceptibility. Based on current evidence, replacement of total, unsaturated, and even possibly saturated fats with refined, high-glycemic index carbohydrates is unlikely to reduce CHD risk and may increase risk in persons predisposed to insulin resistance.

Study Objective: To measure the relationship between reported alcohol consumption and prevalent diagnosed and undiagnosed coronary heart disease (CHD) in men and women to see how much could be explained by covariation with diet, lifestyle, and biomedical factors.
Design And Setting: This was a cross sectional, random population survey covering 22 districts of Scotland and using general practitioner patient lists as the sampling frame. Odds ratios for prevalent CHD at different levels of alcohol consumption taken from a seven day recall were analysed.
