Extended N-terminal sequencing of proteins of the large ribosomal subunit from yeast mitochondria.

Published: June 1991

We have determined the N-termini of 26 proteins of the large ribosomal subunit from yeast mitochondria by direct amino acid micro-sequencing. The N-terminal sequences of proteins YmL33 and YmL38 showed a significant similarity to eubacterial ribosomal (r-) proteins L30 and L14, respectively. In addition, several proteins could be assigned to their corresponding yeast nuclear genes. Based on a comparison of the protein sequences deduced from the corresponding DNA regions with the N-termini of the mature proteins, the putative leader peptides responsible for mitochondrial matrix-targeting were compiled. In most leader sequences a relative abundance of aromatic amino acids, preferentially phenylalanine, was found.

Unlabelled: Metabolomics extensively utilizes Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy due to its excellent reproducibility and high throughput. Both one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) NMR spectra provide crucial information for metabolite annotation and quantification, yet present complex overlapping patterns which may require sophisticated machine learning algorithms to decipher. Unfortunately, the limited availability of labeled spectra can hamper application of machine learning, especially deep learning algorithms which require large amounts of labelled data.

Cervical cancer is a common tumor in women and one of the common causes of cancer death in women. Due to the aggressive and non-specific nature of traditional chemotherapy, there is a growing need for new treatment modalities. Currently, tumor immunotherapy is increasingly garnering attention as a disruptive treatment approach.

Pericytes mediate neuroinflammation via Fli-1 in endotoxemia and sepsis in mice.

Inflamm Res

Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina, 173 Ashley Ave, Charleston, SC, 29425, USA.

Background: Sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE) often results from neuroinflammation. Recent studies have shown that brain platelet-derived growth factor receptor β (PDGFRβ) cells, including pericytes, may act as early sensors of infection by secreting monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), which transmits inflammatory signals to the central nervous system. The erythroblast transformation-specific (ETS) transcription factor Friend leukemia virus integration 1 (Fli-1) plays a critical role in inflammation by regulating the expression of key cytokines, including MCP-1.

The Formation and Features of Massive Vacuole Induced by Nutrient Deficiency in Human Embryonic Kidney Cells.

Front Biosci (Landmark Ed)

January 2025

Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Binzhou Medical University Hospital, 256603 Binzhou, Shandong, China.

Background: Cellular vacuolization is a commonly observed phenomenon under physiological and pathological conditions. However, the mechanisms underlying vacuole formation remain largely unresolved.

Methods: LysoTracker Deep Red probes and Enhanced Green Fluorescent Protein-tagged light chain 3B (LC3B) plasmids were employed to differentiate the types of massive vacuoles.
