Purpose: Pediatric Kawasaki ocular involvement is dominated by bulbar conjunctival injection and mild, self-limited anterior uveitis. Posterior segment involvement is rare.
Methods/results: Case Report. Despite early efficient treatment including aspirin and intravenous immunoglobulins, a 12-year-old girl developed a severe bilateral global inflammatory ocular involvement including punctuated keratitis, retrodescemetic precipitates, anterior uveitis, vitritis, and bilateral optic disc swelling with papillitis.
Discussion: This is the first description of severe bilateral global inflammatory involvement of the eyes in Kawasaki disease (KD). Usually subclinical and self-limited, eye involvement in KD can lead to severe visual impairment.
Conclusions: Inflammation of both anterior and posterior segments does not seem to respond to KD-specific treatment and could justify a specific ophthalmologic therapeutic approach.

Background: Vitamin D is the focus of extensive medical research globally. Recent studies have investigated the correlation between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) and common inflammatory markers. However, few studies have incorporated novel inflammatory markers such as the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), platelet-to-high density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (PHR), systemic inflammatory index (SII), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), systemic inflammatory response (SIRI), and neutrophil-to-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (NHR).

The medicinal value of herbal products is often rooted in their "traditional" use, recontextualized by modern biomedical research granting them certain medical uses. L. (Asteraceae), native to Mexico, exemplifies such historical developments of a species that played a key role in developing a major pharmacologically active compound - lutein.

Background: Our understanding of the global burden distribution of inflammatory cardiomyopathy and myocarditis is very limited.
Objective: To comprehensively assess the global burden distribution and attributable risk factors of inflammatory cardiomyopathy and myocarditis from 1990 to 2019.
Methods: We extracted the data on death, disability-adjusted life years (DALY), and age-standardized rate (ASR) of inflammatory cardiomyopathy and myocarditis from the 2019 Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study, including the comprehensive data and the data classified by age/sex.

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease which afflicts about nearly 1% of global population. RA results in synovitis and cartilage/bone damage, even disability which aggravates the health burden. Many drugs are used to relieve RA, such as glucocorticoids (GCs), non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) in the clinical treatment.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) continue to be a substantial global healthcare burden despite considerable progress in therapies. The inflammatory response during the progression of CVD has attracted considerable attention. Mitochondria serve as the principal energy source for the heart.
