Ab initio calculations show that a possible mechanism for the photomagnetism in copper octacyanomolybdate compounds consists of the initial excitation of the diamagnetic Cu(II)-Mo(IV-CS) pair to a Cu(II)-Mo(IV-T) state, whose geometry relaxation stabilizes the magnetic doublet and quartet states.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) play crucial roles in both cell signaling and defense mechanisms. Hypochlorous acid (HOCl), a strong oxidant, aids the immune response by damaging pathogens. In this study, we developed two pyridinium-based fluorophores PSSM and PSSE for selective hypochlorite detection.

The excessive use of pesticides is an urgent issue facing environmental sustainability and human health. In this study, a uniform dispersion size, good fluorescence performance and mesoporous structure of a ratiometric fluorescent probe were constructed for nicosulfuron detection. A solvent-free in situ solid-phase synthesis method was used to encapsulate biomass carbon dots within mesoporous silica (CDs@mSiO₂), followed by the modification of l-cysteine-modified manganese-doped zinc sulfide quantum dots (ZnS:Mn QDs), to construct a ratiometric fluorescent probe for highly sensitive and selective detection of nicosulfuron.

Article Synopsis
  • The transmembrane potential is crucial for cellular functions like signaling and energy production, with Rhodamine voltage reporters (RhoVRs) serving as small, non-invasive sensors that can detect voltage changes, especially in mitochondria.
  • Extensive simulations and free-energy calculations revealed that the orientation of RhoVRs relative to membranes, influenced by their polarized functional groups, significantly impacts their voltage sensitivity and localization within cells.
  • The study's findings on the relationship between the chemical structure of RhoVRs and their membrane behavior offer valuable insights for designing fluorescent dyes that better detect voltage changes.

Light induced release of cisplatin from Pt(IV) prodrugs is a promising tool for precise spatiotemporal control over the antiproliferative activity of Pt-based chemotherapeutic drugs. A combination of light-controlled chemotherapy (PACT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT) in one molecule has the potential to overcome crucial drawbacks of both Pt-based chemotherapy and PDT via a synergetic effect. Herein we report green-light-activated Pt(IV) prodrug GreenPt with BODIPY-based photosentitizer in the axial position with an incredible high light response and singlet oxygen generation ability.

Amino compounds are important molecules, commonly found in nature and widely applied in industrial production. Recently, photocatalysis has been discovered as an efficient method to synthesize amino compounds by promoting imine hydrogenation. In this work, a strategy of imine hydrogenation catalyzed by 2e consecutive photoinduced electron transfer (ConPET) process of thioxanthone-TfOH complex (9-HTXTF) was thoroughly investigated with its reaction conditions optimized, substrate scope examined, and reaction mechanism elucidated, which provides an efficient method for synthesizing amino compounds.
