We present an inverted structure of microaxicon, called a microaxicave, with periodic micro-conic-cave shapes, to generate circular hollow beams. A microaxicave is fabricated in a quartz substrate with the combination of direct laser writing and inductively coupled plasma etching. The hollow beam generated by the quartz microaxicave is directly recorded with a CCD camera, and the hollow beam is consistent with analysis by the diffraction theory.

This paper presents, for the first time, a rotary actuator functionalized by an inclined disc rotor that serves as a distal optical scanner for endoscopic probes, enabling side-viewing endoscopy in luminal organs using different imaging/analytic modalities such as optical coherence tomography and Raman spectroscopy. This scanner uses a magnetic rotor designed to have a mirror surface on its backside, being electromagnetically driven to roll around the cone-shaped hollow base to create a motion just like a precessing coin. An optical probing beam directed from the probe's optic fiber is passed through the hollow cone to be incident and bent on the back mirror of the rotating inclined rotor, circulating the probing beam around the scanner for full 360° sideway imaging.

This paper introduces cross-wound CFRP shear reinforcement of hollow HPC beams. The CFRP reinforcement was manufactured in the form of a square tubular mesh from carbon rovings oriented at ±45° from the longitudinal axis. The shear reinforcement was made in two variants from carbon yarns with linear densities of 1600 and 3700 tex.

The holographic technique is one of the simplest methods for designing antennas based on metasurface. This paper presents a spoof surface plasmon polariton (SSPP) leaky-wave antenna (LWA) based on the concept of impedance modulated metasurfaces by the anisotropic holographic technique. Instead of parasitic elements, anisotropic SSPP elements are exploited to achieve radiation with circular polarization.

In a slim-floor structural system, beams and slabs are placed at the same level, reducing the overall floor height and material usage in vertical structures, thereby improving economic efficiency. The use of slim-floor structures is common practice in Finnish construction where these structures are typically constructed using hollow-concrete slabs and welded steel box beams. However, in Finland, only a few buildings utilise cross-laminated timber (CLT) slabs in slim-floor structures, and none have incorporated the composite action between CLT and steel beams.

We have developed an effective one-step extrusion method to prepare a nodeless chalcogenide hollow-core anti-resonance fiber, characterized by excellent symmetry and less requirements for drawing pressure in achieving the desired wall thickness. The resulting fiber exhibits excellent uniformity, with an ultra-large effective mode area of 21970 µm and a low overlap factor of  = 0.03%.
