This paper tackles the problem of image deconvolution with joint estimation of point spread function (PSF) parameters and hyperparameters. Within a Bayesian framework, the solution is inferred via a global a posteriori law for unknown parameters and object. The estimate is chosen as the posterior mean, numerically calculated by means of a Monte Carlo Markov chain algorithm. The estimates are efficiently computed in the Fourier domain, and the effectiveness of the method is shown on simulated examples. Results show precise estimates for PSF parameters and hyperparameters as well as precise image estimates including restoration of high frequencies and spatial details, within a global and coherent approach.

Chlorination-induced spread of antibiotic resistance genes in drinking water systems.

Water Res

January 2025

School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of New South Wales, Sydney, NSW 2052, Australia. Electronic address:

Chlorine, the most widely utilized disinfectant for drinking water globally, has recently been implicated in facilitating the spread of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), raising concerns about its underestimated environmental and ecological risks. However, given the current fragmented research focus and results, a comprehensive understanding of the potential mechanisms and influencing factors behind chlorination-promoted ARGs transmission in drinking water systems is crucial. This work is the first to systematically review the variations in abundance, transmission mechanisms, influencing factors, and mitigation strategies related to ARGs during the chlorination process.

The objective of this study was the develop of fortified cookies enriched with oats flour and bitter gourd powder and monitoring the effects of these enrichments on the physicochemical, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and sensory attributes. This study was subjected to four treatments: control (0% oats flour and bitter gourd powder), T1 (10% oats flour), T2 (3% bitter gourd powder), and T3 (7% oats flour and 3% bitter gourd powder). Various physical properties of the cookies, including weight, thickness, diameter, spread ratio, baking loss, pH, and color values (L*, a*, and b*), were measured.

Purpose: Photophobia is a common and debilitating symptom associated with migraine. Women are disproportionately affected by migraines, with a higher prevalence and more severe symptoms compared to men. This study investigated the effects of cortical spreading depression on light-aversive and dark-seeking behaviors in a rat model, with an emphasis on sex differences.

Increased Mortality in Kidney Transplant Recipients During the Delta/Omicron Era of the COVID-19 Pandemic Despite Widespread Vaccination.

Clin Transplant

January 2025

William J Von Liebig Center for Transplantation and Clinical Regeneration, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, USA.

Introduction: The incidence of mortality late in the pandemic, particularly after widespread vaccine availability, is not well understood. Herein, we elucidate the effect of this impact of the COVID pandemic as well as risk factors for mortality during it.

Methods: The primary end point was death with a functioning graft with secondary endpoints of mortality rates in subgroups and at different time intervals during the pandemic.

In the process of studying the species and its varieties, we discovered a unique taxon of the genus that resembles but differs in having a mostly densely white-strigose stem vestiture (sometimes with spreading trichomes) and tuberculate to muricate nutlets with often whitish tubercles that are, in comparison with typical , larger, with a wider base and more pointed apex, and more densely spaced. We believe this form to be different enough to describe as a new species, . This new species occurs in southwestern North America: in California and Arizona of the United States and in northern Baja California, Mexico.
