A study of biological activity of the derivatives of the chitin-chitosan oligomer with salicylic acid and its fragments showed that chitosan salicylate actively protected potato tubers against Phytophthora infestans but sharply inhibited reparation of potato tissues. N-(2-Hydroxybenzyl)chitosan exhibited good protective properties but did not influence wound reparation. N-(2-Hydroxy-3-methoxybenzyl)-N-pyridox-chitosan, which contained the pyridoxal and 2-hydroxy-3-methoxy fragments, was the most efficient, stimulating both defense against late blight and wound reparation in potato tissues.

Carbon dots (CDs), one type of zero-dimensional carbon nanomaterial, showed extensive application in food analysis. Herein, CDs as fluorometry and colorimetry probes were developed to determine peroxydisulfate (PDS) and phosphate ion (Pi) in food samples. CDs were developed with one-pot hydrothermal process from 5-amino salicylic acid and o/m-phenylenediamine named o/m-CDs.

Isoleucic acid (ILA) was identified in human patients with maple syrup urine disease (MSUD) half a century ago. MSUD patients, who are defective in the catabolism of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), that is, isoleucine, leucine, and valine, have urine with a unique maple syrup odour related to the accumulation of BCAA breakdown products, largely 2-keto acid derivatives and their reduced 2-hydroxy acids including ILA. A decade ago, ILA was identified in Arabidopsis thaliana.

This study investigated the mechanisms employed by exogenous dopamine application in alleviating chilling injury in kiwifruits during storage at 1 °C for 120 days. Our results indicated that dopamine treatment at 150 µM alleviated chilling injury in kiwifruits during storage at 1 °C for 120 days. By 150 µM dopamine application, higher SUMO E3 ligase (SIZ1) and target of rapamycin (TOR) genes expression accompanied by lower poly(ADP-Ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP1) and sucrose non-fermenting 1-related kinase 1 (SnRK1) genes expression was associated with higher salicylic acid, ATP, NADPH and proline accumulation in kiwifruits during storage at 1 °C for 120 days.

Ginsenosides are the most important secondary metabolites of ginseng. Ginseng has developed certain insect resistance properties during the course of evolutionary environmental adaptation. However, the mechanism underlying the insect resistance of ginseng is poorly understood.

Cotton Verticillium wilt (VW) is often a destructive disease that results in significant fibre yield and quality losses in Gossypium hirsutum. Transferring the resistance trait of Gossypium barbadense to G. hirsutum is optional but challenging in traditional breeding due to limited molecular dissections of resistance genes.
