Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated concerns about whether COVID-19 vaccines are linked to thrombosis (blood clots) in patients with coronary atherosclerosis and in atherosclerotic mice.
  • Researchers found no significant difference in thrombus formation or platelet activation between vaccinated and unvaccinated groups of both mice and CAD patients after vaccination.
  • The results suggest that inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccines do not increase the risk of thrombosis or activate platelets any more than saline treatments, indicating they might be safer compared to adenovirus-based vaccines.

Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake () envenomation is a medical emergency encountered in the Southeastern United States. The venom contains a snake venom thrombin-like enzyme (SVTLE) that is defibrinogenating, causing coagulopathy without effects on platelets in humans. This investigation utilized thrombelastographic methods to document this coagulopathy kinetically on the molecular level in a rabbit model of envenomation via the analyses of whole blood samples without and with platelet inhibition.

The early administration of fibrinogen has gained wide acceptance for the treatment of major hemorrhage, whereas the substitution of coagulation factor XIII (FXIII) is only supported by a low level of evidence. This study aimed to answer the question of whether a combined therapy of fibrinogen/FXIII substitution performs superiorly to sole fibrinogen administration in the treatment of dilutional coagulopathy. An in-vitro model of massive transfusion was used to compare the effect of combined fibrinogen/FXIII administration to that of sole fibrinogen therapy for the treatment of dilutional coagulopathy.

Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cerebrovascular disease (CBVD) are common diseases in middle-aged and elderly people with high morbidity, mortality and disability rates. Individualized assessment and treatment are helpful to improve the quality of life and prognosis of patients. Thrombelastography (TEG) is a method to evaluate the coagulation function of patient with whole blood.

Background Hypergravity may promote human hemostasis thereby increasing thrombotic risk. Future touristic suborbital spaceflight will expose older individuals with chronic medical conditions, who are at much higher thromboembolic risk compared with professional astronauts, to hypergravity. Therefore, we tested the impact of hypergravity on hemostasis in healthy volunteers undergoing centrifugation.
