This retrospective study aimed to investigate the response to hepatitis A virus (HAV) immunisation following liver transplantation. We analysed, 234 vaccination records of 284 children who underwent liver transplantation between January 2003 and July 2021, including annual serological results. Of the 120 HAV-naïve patients, approximately 71% and 83% showed seroconversion after receiving one and two vaccine doses, respectively.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a herpesvirus capable of establishing lifelong latent infections, leading to a wide spectrum of diseases. It can affect multiple organs, including the gastrointestinal tract, typically through lymphoproliferative syndromes or gastric cancer, while acute gastrointestinal disease is rare and poorly understood. Two cases of EBV-induced acute colitis in kidney transplant recipients were described.

We developed a novel adeno-associated virus 5 gene therapy (AAV5-GLA) expressing human alpha-galactosidase A (GLA) under the control of a novel, small and strong, liver-restricted promoter. We assessed the preclinical potential of AAV5-GLA for treating Fabry disease, an X-linked hereditary metabolic disorder resulting from mutations in the gene encoding GLA that lead to accumulation of the substrates globotriaosylceramide and globotriaosylsphingosine, causing heart, kidney, and central nervous system dysfunction. Effects of intravenously administered AAV5-GLA were evaluated in (1) GLA-knockout mice aged 7-8 weeks (early in disease) and 20 weeks (nociception phenotype manifestation) and (2) cynomolgus macaques during an 8-week period.

BK polyomavirus (BKPyV) infection of the kidney graft remains a major clinical issue in the field of organ transplantation. Risk factors for BKPyV-associated nephropathy (BKPyVAN) and molecular tools for determining viral DNA loads are now better defined. BKPyV DNAemia in plasma, in particular, plays a central role in diagnosing active infection and managing treatment decisions.

Purpose: To determine factors that put US veterans with active tuberculosis at risk for extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) compared with pulmonary tuberculosis.
Methods: We included veterans with laboratory-confirmed tuberculosis from 1990-2022 in our retrospective cohort study. Multivariable logistic regression was used to estimate the association of demographic and clinical risk factors with EPTB.
