The study on timely birth dose of hepatitis B vaccine for infants were reviewed in the article. The authors recommend that some relevant researches are necessary to be implemented in the areas which the coverage of HepB timely birth dose is at a low level in order to find out the influencing factors and intervention strategies to protect more children against hepatitis B virus infection as soon as possible.

A Cell-Based Electrochemical Biosensor for the Detection of Infectious Hepatitis A Virus.

Biosensors (Basel)

November 2024

Nano Electrochemistry Laboratory, College of Engineering, University of Georgia, Athens, GA 30602, USA.

Hepatitis A virus (HAV), a major cause of acute liver infections, is transmitted through the fecal-oral route and close contact with infected individuals. Current HAV standardized methods rely on the detection of virus antigen or RNA, which do not differentiate between infectious and non-infectious HAV. The objective of this study was to develop a prototype cell-based electrochemical biosensor for detection of infectious HAV.

The host gene regulates HBV replication via HBV PRE-induced nuclear export.

Acta Biochim Biophys Sin (Shanghai)

Department of Infectious Diseases, Shanghai Key Laboratory of Infectious Diseases and Biosafety Emergency Response, National Medical Center for Infectious Diseases, Huashan Hospital, Fudan University, Shanghai 200040, China.

The persistent global burden of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection has prompted ongoing investigations into host determinants of viral control. In this study, we investigate the regulatory influence of the host gene cleavage stimulation factor subunit 2 (CSTF2) on HBV replication dynamics. We demonstrate differential CSTF2 expression across the spectrum of HBV infection phases, with upregulated expression noted during the immune-reactive and inactive carrier states compared with the immune-tolerant phase.

In preclinical studies, GST-HG141, a novel hepatitis B virus (HBV) capsid assembly modulator displayed potent anti-HBV activity in vitro and strong efficacy in HBV animal models. A randomized, double-blind, ascending phase 1b trial assessed the pharmacokinetics, safety, and efficacy of GST-HG141 in chronic hepatitis B (CHB) individuals. Thirty treatment-naïve CHB patients were enrolled in three cohorts (25, 50, and 100 mg twice orally after meals daily) over 28 days, with 10 subjects per cohort (8:2 ratio for GST-HG141 and placebo).

Purpose: The pharmacokinetic (PK) profile of direct-acting antivirals, namely ledipasvir/sofosbuvir (LDV/SOF), might be altered in patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), affecting the optimum dose needed for hepatitis C virus treatment. Limited data are available evaluating the population PK of LDV/SOF and SOF metabolite GS-331007. We aimed to study whether ALL could affect population PK parameters of LDV, SOF, and the SOF major metabolite GS-331007 in hepatitis C virus-infected children, develop and validate a predictive PK model of LDV/SOF disposition in this special population, and identify their explained and unexplained sources of variability.

Effectiveness of hepatitis A immunisation after paediatric liver transplantation: A retrospective observational analysis.

Am J Transplant

December 2024

Division for Paediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Department of Paediatric Kidney, Liver, and Metabolic Diseases, Hannover Medical School, 30625 Hannover, Germany.

This retrospective study aimed to investigate the response to hepatitis A virus (HAV) immunisation following liver transplantation. We analysed, 234 vaccination records of 284 children who underwent liver transplantation between January 2003 and July 2021, including annual serological results. Of the 120 HAV-naïve patients, approximately 71% and 83% showed seroconversion after receiving one and two vaccine doses, respectively.
