Background: Good sleep is essential for the growth and the development of children. However, sleep is often impaired in patients with atopic dermatitis (AD). It is important to assess the sleep quality in pediatric AD patients. For that purpose, we utilized actigraphy as an objective method for the assessment of sleep quality.
Methods: Childhood patients with AD (16 cases) and 8 non-allergic volunteers were recruited. Actiwatch (AW-64) was attached to each subject's wrist for 11 days at maximum. Sleep parameters were calculated with Actiware and compared among various patient groups.
Results: Results demonstrate that sleep was significantly compromised in patients with AD, according to the severity. Subjective scoring of the sleep quality by parents showed limited correlation with actigraphy.
Conclusion: Actigraphy is an objective and unobtrusive method to measure the sleep quality in childhood AD patients and can provide useful outcome in clinical trial.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a highly prevalent and serious disorder with significant complications, causes considerable daytime and nighttime symptoms as well as long-term consequences and is yet an underdiagnosed and inadequately treated condition. Patients with OSA undergo frequent awakenings during the sleep cycle and find it impossible to get restorative sleep. Individuals are extremely fatigued, sleepy, and irritable throughout the day.

Circadian rhythms are governed by a biological clock, and are known to occur in a variety of physiological processes. We report results on the circadian rhythm of heart rate observed using a wrist-worn wearable device (Fitbit), consisting of over 17,000 individuals over the course of 30 days. We obtain an underlying heart rate circadian rhythm from the time series heart rate by modeling the circadian rhythm as a sum over the first two Fourier harmonics.

Background: Evidence supports the common incidence of sleep disturbance in opioid use disorder (OUD) as a potential marker of disrupted orexin system functioning. This study evaluated the initial safety and tolerability of a challenge dose of lemborexant, a dual orexin antagonist, as an adjunct to buprenorphine/naloxone.
Methods: Patients (18-65 years old) with OUD receiving sublingual buprenorphine/naloxone, with a Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index total score of 6 or higher, were recruited from outpatient clinics.
Background: To explore the symptom clusters of patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis and construct a symptom network to identify the core symptoms and core symptom clusters, to provide reference for precise symptom management.
Methods: Conveniently selected 354 patients with maintenance hemodialysis were surveyed cross-sectionally using the general information questionnaire, the Dialysis Symptom Index and the Kidney Disease Questionnaire. Symptom clusters were extracted using exploratory factor analysis, and core symptom clusters were identified using hierarchical regression and network analysis.

Introduction: Psychological disorders including depression and anxiety are significant public health concerns. A Mediterranean-style dietary pattern (MDP) has been associated with improved mental well-being in observational studies. Evidence of the acute (defined as postprandial to 1 week) effects of an MDP on brain function, mood, cognition and important modulators, including sleep and the gut microbiota is limited.
