Background: Polyacrylic acid grafted chitin (Chitin-PAA) contains a hydrogel characteristic that makes it more suitable for wound dressing application. In animal models, Chitin-PAA dressing exhibited properties as a promising dressing. Epithelization promotion, rapid reduction of wound size, reduction of inflammatory cell response, and less toxicity had been noted.
Objective: Carryout a pilot clinical comparative study of Chitin-PAA dressing, lipido-colloid absorbent dressing, and alginate wound dressing in the treatment of partial-thickness wound.
Material And Method: Between June 2006 and March 2007, 36 partial-thickness wounds were randomized into three groups and three different types of dressing were used. Each wound was treated until it was completely healed, and a visual analogue scale was used for the pain evaluation.
Result: The present study shows the visual analogue pain score in the Chitin-PAA group seems to be a bit higher than the Urgocell group but not statistically different. The completely healed day is not significantly different. Three patients in the lipido-colloid absorbent dressing groups had wound infection but eventually healed after treatment.
Conclusion: There was no statistical difference in terms of visual analogue pain score and healing time between the lipido-colloid absorbent dressing, alginate dressing, and chitin-PAA dressing.

Objective: A description of wounds treated with a poly-absorbent silver dressing (with technology lipido-colloid with silver ions, TLC-Ag), and evaluation of the short-term clinical impact of the dressing on the wound healing process, under real-life conditions.
Method: A large, prospective, multicentre, observational study of patients in 81 centres in Germany, presenting with an exuding wound at risk or with clinical signs of local infection for whom the evaluated TLC-Ag dressing (UrgoClean Ag, Laboratoires Urgo, France) has been prescribed. Main outcomes included: reduction in number of wound infections diagnosed and clinical signs of local infection, wound healing rate, clinical assessment of wound healing progression, relative wound area reduction (RWAR), local tolerability, handling and acceptance of the dressing.

The wound contact layer of UrgoTul Absorb Border (Urgo Medical) foam dressing contains a Technology Lipido Colloid (TLC) Healing Matrix, which includes hydrocolloid and lipophilic substances designed to stimulate fibroblast proliferation and thus promote granulation tissue formation. A multicentre, noncomparative, clinical evaluation of UrgoTul Absorb Border investigated whether use of the dressing promoted granulation tissue formation and the management of wound exudate. Other parameters evaluated included: pain-free dressing changes, protection and improvement of surrounding tissue, ease of application, conformability, ability to remain in place, wear time, effect on peri-wound skin, durability, ease of removal, and patient comfort.
