We studied at nanometer resolution the viscoelastic properties of microvilli and tethers pulled from myelogenous cells via P-selectin glycoprotein ligand 1 (PSGL-1) and found that in contrast to pure membrane tethers, the viscoelastic properties of microvillus deformations are dependent upon the cell-surface molecule through which load is applied. A laser trap and polymer bead coated with anti-PSGL-1 (KPL-1) were used to apply step loads to microvilli. The lengthening of the microvillus in response to the induced step loads was fitted with a viscoelastic model. The quasi-steady state force on the microvillus at any given length was approximately fourfold lower in cells treated with cytochalasin D or when pulled with concanavalin A-coated rather than KPL-1-coated beads. These data suggest that associations between PSGL-1 and the underlying actin cytoskeleton significantly affect the early stages of leukocyte deformation under flow.

In order to solve the problems of rutting and early fatigue cracks in emulsified asphalt cold recycled pavement, and the shortage of natural stone resources and new environmental hazards caused by the use of traditional limestone powder filler. In this study, coal gangue powder was added to prepare Emulsified Asphalt Mastic (EAM) to improve the rheological properties and fatigue performance. A series of tests, including frequency scanning, temperature scanning, Multiple Stress Creep Recovery (MSCR), Linear Amplitude Scanning (LAS), and Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) were conducted.

Background And Objectives: The most widely used method of platelet cryopreservation requires the addition of 5%-6% dimethylsulphoxide (DMSO), followed by its pre-freeze removal via centrifugation, to minimize toxicity. However, this adds complexity to the pre-freeze and post-thaw processing. Accordingly, the aim of this study was to simplify platelet cryopreservation by reducing the DMSO concentration and omitting the requirement for pre-transfusion removal.

This study explores the synergistic effects of linoleic acid (LA) oxidation on the aggregation behavior and structural properties of wheat gluten (WG). Using lipoxygenase to induce LA oxidation, it was observed that this process significantly influenced WG's viscoelasticity and structural characteristics. Specifically, LA oxidation enhanced WG's viscoelastic properties while reducing its instantaneous elastic and recovery deformations.

In this work, Pleurotus eryngii protein-polysaccharide conjugates (PE-PPCs) were used as the only stabilizer for the preparation of high internal phase emulsions (HIPEs). PE-PPCs presented spherical particles in solution, and their three-phase contact angle had a strong correlation with pH values, and the angle at pH 10.0 was almost 90°, showing the most balanced hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity.

Incorporating nanomaterials into hydrogels allows for the creation of versatile materials with properties that can be precisely tailored by manipulating their nanoscale structures, leading to a wide range of bulk properties. Investigating the structural and property characteristics of composite hydrogels is crucial in tailoring their performance for specific applications. This study focuses on investigating the correlation between the structural arrangement and properties of a composite hydrogel of thermoresponsive polymer, gelatin, and light-responsive antimicrobial porous gold nanorods (PAuNRs).
