Eyelid, orbit, and eye position asymmetry may adversely affect overall facial aesthetics. Armed with the knowledge of important periocular measures and landmarks, asymmetries can be easily identified and consideration may be given to correction or camouflage.

Background: In the United Kingdom, it is estimated that 5,000 patients sustain eye injuries or ocular trauma requiring hospital admission annually, of which 250 patients will be permanently blinded. This study explores the cost-effectiveness of Adjunctive Steroid Combination in Ocular Trauma (ASCOT) given during surgery versus standard treatment in vitreoretinal surgery in patients with open globe trauma.

Methods: This economic evaluation was embedded alongside the ASCOT RCT (ClinicalTrials.

Purpose: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most frequent malignant periocular tumor. It is associated with exposure to ultraviolet radiation, and its incidence is gradually increasing. It may occasionally display more aggressive behavior and result in orbital or intracranial invasion.

Article Synopsis
  • Ophthalmic malignancies, including uveal melanoma (UM), are rare tumors affecting the eye and surrounding areas, marked by their diverse characteristics and low incidence rates.
  • Uveal melanoma is particularly challenging due to its rarity, risks associated with tissue biopsy, and high likelihood of aggressive metastatic spread, affecting patient outcomes.
  • The creation of a dedicated UM biobank aims to collect valuable tumor samples for research, helping to uncover the disease's pathogenesis and leading to potential early detection and treatment strategies.

Introduction: Clinical tools are neither standardized nor ubiquitous to monitor volumetric or morphological changes in the periorbital region and ocular adnexa due to pathology such as oculofacial trauma, thyroid eye disease, and the natural aging process. We have developed a low-cost, three dimensionally printed otogrammetry for utomated ar (PHACE) system to evaluate three-dimensional (3D) measurements of periocular and adnexal tissue.

Methods: The PHACE system uses two Google Pixel 3 smartphones attached to automatic rotating platforms to image a subject's face through a cutout board patterned with registration marks.
