Identical treatment strategies have proven effective in various functional somatic syndromes (FSS) and evidence is increasing that FSS share common aetiological factors, pathophysiological mechanisms and psychological features. Currently, only a minority of patients with FSS receive evidence-based treatment. The main reasons for this are inappropriate organisation of care, physicians' lack of knowledge and a widespread neglect of patients' suffering. We outline a unified stepped care approach for the prevention and management of FSS in which treatment strategies are not based on the diagnostic label, but on illness severity and complexity.

Inflammation is a probable biological pathway underlying the relationship between diabetes and depression, but data on differences between diabetes types and symptom clusters of depression are scarce. Therefore, this cross-sectional study aimed to compare associations of a multimarker panel of biomarkers of inflammation with depressive symptoms and its symptom clusters between people with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and type 2 diabetes (T2D). This cross-sectional study combined data from five studies including 1260 participants (n = 706 T1D, n = 454 T2D).

Somatic and genetic mutations in glutathione peroxidases (GPxs), including GPx7 and GPx8, have been linked to intellectual disability, microcephaly, and various tumors. GPx7 and GPx8 evolved the latest among the GPx enzymes and are present in the endoplasmic reticulum. Although lacking a glutathione binding domain, GPx7 and GPx8 possess peroxidase activity that helps the body respond to cellular stress.

Recent studies have demonstrated the association between constitutional ring chromosome 21 (r(21)c) and the development of B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) with intrachromosomal amplification of chromosome 21 (iAMP21). iAMP21 acts as a driver which is often accompanied by secondary alterations that influence disease progression. Here, we report an atypical case of iAMP21 B-ALL with a unique molecular profile in the context of r(21)c.
