The high efficiency and chemoselectivity of peptide ubiquitylation that is achieved using the delta-mercaptolysine prompted us to expand the scope of this residue in various ligation schemes. In this report, we demonstrate the synthesis of five analogues of this important amino acid bearing a variety of protecting groups, which is essential in sequential peptide ligation and ubiquitylation. The key-step in the synthesis is the nucleophilic 1,4-addition of a variety of thiols on a nitro olefin scaffold.

Objective: To investigate the effects of lycopene supplementation on inflammation, lung histopathology and systemic DNA damage in an experimentally induced lung injury model, ventilated by conventional mechanical ventilation and high-frequency oscillatory ventilation, compared with a control group.

Methods: Fifty-five rabbits sampled by convenience were supplemented with 10mg/kg lycopene for 21 days prior to the experiment. Lung injury was induced by tracheal infusion of warm saline.

Through selective breeding, humans have driven exceptional morphological diversity in domestic dogs, creating more than 200 recognized breeds developed for specialized functional tasks such as herding, protection, and hunting. Here, we use three-dimensional reconstructions of dog skulls to ask whether these function-oriented kennel-club groups reflect differences in morphology that correspond to those functions. We analyzed 117 canid skulls, representing 40 domestic dog breeds and 18 wild subspecies, using geometric morphometric techniques and -means clustering.

The European Union (EU) currently addresses the issue of contaminated land management through the national frameworks of its member states, as there is no such EU legislation thus far. However, with the introduction of the new EU Soil Strategy and the anticipated Soil Monitoring Law, EU countries are poised to receive a unified legislative tool that is expected to enhance their soil policies significantly. These legislative developments are set to introduce key initiatives such as the establishment of a contaminated site registry and the imposition of restrictions on soil contamination using screening values and soil monitoring practices.

Background: Myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI) is an important complication in the treatment of heart failure, and its treatment has not made satisfactory progress. Nitroxyl (HNO) showed protective effects on the heart failure, however, the effect and underlying mechanism of HNO on MIRI remain largely unclear.

Methods: MIRI model in this study was established to induce H9C2 cell injury through hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) in vitro.

Exact Quantization of Topological Order Parameter in SU(N) Spin Models, N-ality Transformation and Ingappabilities.

We show that the ground-state expectation value of twisting operator is a topological order parameter for U(1)- and Z_{N}-symmetric symmetry-protected topological (SPT) phases in one-dimensional "spin" systems-it is quantized in the thermodynamic limit and can be used to identify different SPT phases and to diagnose phase transitions among them. We prove that this (nonlocal) order parameter must take values in Nth roots of unity, and its value can be changed by a generalized lattice translation acting as an N-ality transformation connecting distinct phases. This result also implies the Lieb-Schultz-Mattis (LSM) ingappability for SU(N) spins if we further impose a general translation symmetry.
