The aim of this study was to verify the prevalence of bed-sharing and factors associated with this sleeping environment in an urban population in Southern Brazil. This was a cross-sectional nested cohort study with 233 mother-infant pairs selected at the maternity ward of the University Hospital in Porto Alegre. When the infant was 3 and 6 months old, home visits were performed to collect data on bed-sharing and associated variables. The main outcome was the place shared by the mother and infant for sleeping. Variables with p < 0.2 were included in a Poisson regression model. At 3 and 6 months, 31.2% and 28.5% of infants slept with their mothers at night. At 3 months, prevalence was higher for single mothers (PR: 1.56; CI: 1.01-2.39) and mothers sharing the home with the infant's maternal grandmother (PR: 1.70; CI: 1.09-2.65). Prevalence of bed-sharing at 3 months was high and associated with single mothers and sharing the home with the infant's maternal grandmother.

Objectives: To assess whether exposure to an infant safe sleep initiative was associated with maternal report of infant safe sleep practice at home and to identify other predictive factors.
Methods: After linking Pennsylvania data on infant safe sleep initiative implementation at 27 hospitals to birth certificate and Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS) data from 2017 to 2021, we generated descriptive statistics to compare infant safe sleep practice and other characteristics between respondents exposed to the initiative and all other PRAMS respondents with a hospital birth. Using multivariable logistic regression, we modeled the association between exposure to the initiative and maternal self-report of placing their infant to sleep on their back, on a separate surface, without soft objects, or room sharing without bed sharing.

Objectives: Sudden unexpected infant death (SUID) occurs disproportionately among opioid exposed newborns (OENs) compared to those unexposed. The extent that primary caregivers of OENs adhere to SUID-reducing infant care practices is unknown. We examined rates of SUID-reducing practices (smoking cessation, breastfeeding, and safe sleep [supine sleep, room-sharing not bed-sharing, nonuse of soft bedding or objects]) in a pilot sample of caregivers of OENs.

A systematic review methodology was employed following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses method and utilizing the Effective Public Health Practice Project Quality Assessment Tool for Quantitative Studies for quality assessment. Inclusion criteria were quantitative or mixed-methods studies published between 1993 and 2022 that provided data on the association between bed-sharing and breastfeeding for postpartum mothers of infants 0-12 months.
