Published: May 2010

Anthracene-based adenines 1 and 2 have been designed and synthesized, and their metal ion recognition properties have been established fluorometrically. Both molecules exhibit Cu²⁺ induced ON-OFF type signaling patterns over the other representative metal ions studied. Compound 1 exhibits 97% quenching of emission in the presence of Cu²⁺ whilst derivative 2 shows 81% quenching under similar experimental conditions.

The use of proteins as intracellular probes and therapeutic tools is often limited by poor intracellular delivery. One approach to enabling intracellular protein delivery is to transform proteins into spherical nucleic acid (proSNA) nanoconstructs, with surfaces chemically modified with a dense shell of radially oriented DNA that can engage with cell-surface receptors that facilitate endocytosis. However, proteins often have a limited number of available reactive surface residues for DNA conjugation such that the extent of DNA loading and cellular uptake is restricted.

Serendipitous Discovery of Dearomatized Dimers in Anthracene Derivative Oxidation.

Org Lett

January 2025

Department of Chemistry, University at Albany, State University of New York, Albany, New York 12222, United States.

We present the serendipitous discovery of an unusual dimer formed from anthracene-derived polyarenes. Unlike the typical oxidative coupling of substituted aromatic scaffolds, the reaction yielded a dearomatized enone dimer as the sole product. This dearomatized motif, notably, does not undergo the commonly observed rearomatization, and no biaryl products were detected.

Hot-exciton materials, among all kinds of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) emitters, have better exciton utilization efficiency and efficiency roll-off, making them possible for their practical applications. We studied the photophysical properties of a few hot-exciton molecules based on an anthracene core unit to efficiently harvest all triplet excitons to the lowest excited singlet state. The conversion of triplet exciton to singlet exciton utilizing hRISC can be enhanced due to the ππ*←nπ* transition channel.

Thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) materials with high photoluminescence quantum yields and a fast reverse intersystem crossing (RISC) are of the highest interest for organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). In the past decade, triaryl boranes with multiple resonance effect (MR) have captured significant attention. The efficiency of MR-TADF emitters strongly depends on small singlet-triplet energy gaps (ΔE), but also on large reverse intersystem crossing (RISC) rate constants (k).

Accessibility of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon content in fishes from the region of the 2019 oil spill on the northeast Brazil coast.

Mar Pollut Bull

December 2024

Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, Departamento de Química Fundamental, Av. Jornalista Aníbal Fernandes, s/n, Cidade Universitária, 50740-560 Recife, PE, Brazil. Electronic address:

In August 2019, Brazil experienced its largest large oil spill, which impacted extensive areas and significantly affected the northeastern region, particularly Pernambuco. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), major oil components, are critical for assessing fish contamination risks. This study presents two sample pretreatment methods for fish samples - ultrasound-enhanced air-assisted liquid-liquid microextraction (UE-AA-LLME) for low molar mass PAHs, and matrix solid-phase dispersion for high molar mass PAHs - followed by a Gas-Chromatography coupled to Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) detection.
