The resurgence of COVID-19 and the rise in severe outcomes emphasize the need for reliable prognostic markers to guide patient care and optimize ICU and hospital resources. This study investigates the potential of nasopharyngeal swabs to identify biomarkers that predict ICU admission or death in hospitalized COVID-19 patients. We analyzed nasopharyngeal exudates from 95 hospitalized patients in 2020 using high-plex RNA quantification on the NanoString nCounter platform.

: Primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM) caused by is a rare and devastating infection of the central nervous system, often diagnosed late, due to its rapid progression and nonspecific symptoms. We report one of the youngest documented pediatric Vietnamese cases of PAM in a 10-month-old girl from the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. The diagnosis was confirmed through multiplex real-time PCR (MPL-rPCR), microscopy, and sequencing.

In aging, skeletal muscle regeneration declines due to alterations in both myogenic and non-myogenic cells and their interactions. This regenerative dysfunction is not understood comprehensively or with high spatiotemporal resolution. We collected an integrated atlas of 273,923 single-cell transcriptomes and high-resolution spatial transcriptomic maps from muscles of young, old and geriatric mice (~5, 20 and 26 months old) at multiple time points following myotoxin injury.
