The activity levels of serum monoamine oxidase in nutritional (alcoholic) liver disease patients were elevated beyond the upper normal limit, while those of other subjects without pathologically accelerated fibrosis ranged within normal values. Capillaroscopic and plethysmographic studies on finger reactive hyperemia revealed that two characteristic changes in the blood microcirculation, which indicated an occurrence of increased fibritic process in the capillary wall and skin tissues, were observed only in the nutritional (alcoholic) liver disease patients with the elevated serum monoamine oxidase levels. These results suggested that nutritional (alcoholic) liver disease is not a disease restricted to liver tissues, but to a disorder creating pathological fibrosis in the whole-body.

Background: A low level of response (LR) to alcohol is a known risk factor for alcohol use disorder (AUD). Although higher total body water (TBW) is associated with lower blood alcohol concentrations and reduced responses following alcohol consumption, the relationship between morphometric measures such as body mass index (BMI) and LR is less clear. This study aimed to examine the relationship between BMI and LR to alcohol, and the contribution of TBW to this relationship.

Selenium-enriched probiotics have attracted much attention due to the physiological activities of both probiotics and selenium (organic selenium). In this study, we investigated the mitigating effect of selenium-enriched GG (LGG@Se) and its pathway on alcohol-induced liver injury (ALI) in mice. The results showed that LGG@Se was superior to LGG and sodium selenite in alleviating ALI.

Objectives: This study aimed to define handgrip strength (HGS) cutoff points to predict 1-year mortality in adult patients with liver cirrhosis.
Methods: This is an analysis of cohort databases from four reference centers in Brazil. Inpatients or outpatients with cirrhosis and aged ≥18 years were included.
Aims: To compare the effects of ipragliflozin, a sodium-dependent glucose transporter-2 inhibitor, and those of metformin on the visceral fat area (VFA), a prospective, multi-centre, open-label, blinded-endpoint, randomized, controlled study was undertaken. The generated data were used to examine the effects of ipragliflozin and metformin on indices of hepatic steatosis and liver fibrosis.
Materials And Methods: In total, 103 Japanese patients with type-2 diabetes (T2D), body mass index (BMI) of ≥22 kg/m and glycated haemoglobin level of 7%-10% were randomly administered ipragliflozin 50 mg or metformin 1000 mg for 24 weeks.

Purpose: Evidence concerning the effect of cardiovascular health (CVH) on the risk of metabolic dysfunctional-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is scarce. This study aimed to investigate the association between CVH and MASLD.
Methods: 5680 adults aged ≥ 20 years from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2017-March 2020 were included.
