The crosslinked polymer polyacrylonitrile was synthesized by suspension polymerization using acrylonitrile and divinylbenzene. It has been used as adsorbent of some toxic heavy metals in environmental waters. Its adsorption for metals and the factors which affect the adsorption capacity were studied by atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS). The experimental results showed that under the optimal adsorption conditions, the pH of adsorbate solution was 5-6, static adsorption time was 1.5-2 h, and adsorption procedure was carried out at room temperature, polyacrylonitrile as adsorbent has high adsorption capacity (mg x g(-1)) for Cu2+, Pb2+, Cd2+ and Zn2+, which can reach 26.6, 45.2, 39.7 and 32.5 separately. Adsorption rate (%) was 83.6, 87.1, 85.3 and 86.7 respectively during the 1.5-2 h static adsorption time. It will be more than five-hour static adsorption time before adsorption rate reaches more than 96%. Using 0.10 mol x L(-1) chloride acid as the best desorption solvent to desorb the adsorbates, the recovery of them reached 95%. At the same time the adsorption mechanism of polymer was studied.

Constructing a nanofibrous membrane with high flow rate surface pore structure and high-density ligand chemical structure is a promising strategy to balance the trade-off between high flow rates and high adsorption capacity for protein separation and purification. Herein, a nanofiber-based ion-exchange chromatography membrane with a periodic diagonal surface structure and high ionic strength ligands was fabricated using dispersion cross-linking, wet coating, and template printing with a three-wire diagonal woven mesh. For this membrane, EVOH nanofibers were used as skeleton, glutaraldehyde (GA) as cross-linking agent, and quaternized chitosan (QCS) as binder and functional ligand.

Experimental reproducibility in organ-on-chip (OOC) devices is a challenging issue, mainly caused by cell adhesion problems, as OOC devices are made of bioinert materials not suitable for natural cellularization of their surfaces. To improve cell adhesion, several surface functionalization techniques have been proposed, among which the simple use of an intermediate layer of adsorbed proteins has become the preferred one by OOC users. This way, the cells use surface receptors to adhere to the adsorbed proteins, which are in turn attached to the surface.

Poor breathability, inadequate flexibility, bulky wearability, and insufficient gas-adsorption capacity always limit the developments and applications of conventional chemical protective clothing (CPC). To create a lightweight, breathable, and flexible fabric with a high gas-absorption capacity, activated carbon (AC)-loaded poly(m-phenylene isophthalamide) (PMIA) porous composite fibres were fabricated from a mixed wet-spinning process integrated with a solvent-free phase separation process. By manipulating the pore parameters of as-spun composite fibres, the exposure-immobilization of AC particles on the fibre surface can offer a higher gas-absorption capacity and better AC-loading stability.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are hybrid inorganic-organic 3D coordination polymers with metal sites and organic linkers, which are a "hot" topic in the research of sorption, separations, catalysis, sensing, and environmental remediation. In this study, we explore the molecular mechanism and kinetics of interaction of the new copper porphyrin aluminum metal-organic framework (actAl-MOF-TCPPCu) compound with a vapor of the volatile organic sulfur compound (VOSC) diethyl sulfide (DES). First, compound was synthesized by post-synthetic modification (PSM) of Al-MOF-TCPPH compound by inserting Cu ions into the porphyrin ring and characterized by complementary qualitative and quantitative chemical, structural, and spectroscopic analysis.
