Objectives: Correction of dental origin asymmetry with conventional orthodontic mechanics is at risk of developing side effects because of the inherent asymmetric nature of tooth-borne anchorage-based asymmetric mechanics. Recently, the concept of skeletal anchorage using mini-implants has been introduced in the field of orthodontics and have shown successful results. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the clinical application of osseointegration of surface treated two component mini-implants (C-implant) in managing dental midline correction.

Materials And Methods: The characteristics and procedure of asymmetric retraction for treating maximum anchorage using C-implant is shown with case reports of treated patients. The biomechanics and comparison to conventional mini-implant assisted midline correction methods are also described.

Results: The authors show the clinical application of the mini implant dependent retraction technique during anterior retraction on various cases, possible indications, and simplicity of use.

Conclusion: This article describes effective and simple methods of correcting dental asymmetry with mini-implants and its advantages will be discussed.

Camouflage Orthodontic Treatment of a Severe Class III Malocclusion.

Case Rep Dent

January 2025

Department of Orthodontics, School of Dentistry, Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, Pretoria, South Africa.

Class III malocclusion remains the most challenging occlusal problem to treat due to the complexity of the interrelationships of the underlying skeletal and dental structures. Camouflage orthodontic treatment is a preferred alternative method used to manage mild to moderate Class III malocclusion in nongrowing patients. The aim of this article was to demonstrate a camouflage orthodontic treatment of a 22-year-old female patient diagnosed as having a severe skeletal Class III malocclusion characterized by a straight facial profile, reverse overjet, crowded maxillary incisors, retrognathic maxilla, prognathic mandible, and a hypodivergent facial pattern.

Stored elastic bending tension as a mediator of embryonic body folding.

Cell Rep

Department of Genetics and Developmental Biology, Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa 31096, Israel. Electronic address:

During development, amniote vertebrate embryos transform from a flat sheet into a three-dimensional cylindrical form through ventral folding of the lateral sides of the sheet (the lateral plate [LP]) and their fusion in the ventral midline. Using a chick embryo slice system, we find that the flat stage is actually a poised balance of opposing dorsal and ventral elastic bending tensions. An intact extracellular matrix (ECM) is required for generating tension, as localized digestion of ECM dissipates tension, while removal of endoderm or ectoderm layers has no significant effect.

Introduction: Leptomeningeal disease (LMD) in diffuse midline gliomas (DMGs) can lead to devastating symptoms such as severe pain, urinary incontinence, and tetraparesis, with limited treatment options. We determined whether detecting H3F3A K27M-mutant droplets in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) circulating tumor deoxyribonucleic acid (ctDNA) could be a biomarker for detecting LMD in DMGs.

Methods: Twenty-five CSF samples were obtained from 22 DMG patients.

The management of patients with facial asymmetry caused by condylar hyperplasia remains a subject of ongoing debate. This study compared active patients with unilateral condylar hyperplasia (UCH) who underwent proportional condylectomy with ceased patients with UCH who underwent orthognathic surgery, evaluating esthetics, function, and satisfaction. The retrospective study included 2 groups: group A, with 15 active patients with UCH who underwent proportional condylectomy, and group B, with 22 ceased patients with UCH who underwent orthognathic surgery.

Median mandibular cyst is defined as an odontogenic cyst in a rare midline location. In spite of this definition, there have been two reports of a peculiar lesion, so-called "ciliated" median mandibular cyst associated with vital teeth, the origin of which cannot be explained in terms of odontogenic epithelium multipotentiality. We describe a thorough profile of an additional example.
