The clinical utility of embedded indices of effort in the RBANS was examined in a geriatric sample. Patients were classified as providing suspect effort (n = 45) or probable good effort (n = 258) using the TOMM and clinical consensus. Following the methodology of Silverberg and colleagues (2007), selected individual subtests and a summary Effort Index were evaluated. Setting specificity at approximately 85% yielded cut-offs of <15 on List Recognition, <8 on Digit Span, and >3 on the Effort Index. The modest sensitivity (51.1-64.4%) suggests that the indices should be used in conjunction with additional effort measures. In addition, the RBANS Picture Naming subtest was examined and showed modest sensitivity to detect suboptimal effort, but did not show notable incremental validity for detecting suboptimal effort beyond the Effort Index.

A AuNSs@PB@Ag-Apt surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) probe has been developed by embedding Prussian blue (PB) between Au core and Ag shell. The PB SERS probe illustrates strong SERS activity in the Raman silent region of 2070 cm, and has a zero background signal, ensuring high sensitivity for the detection of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus).

Rate coefficients for ion-polar-molecule reactions between acetonitrile molecules (CHCN) and nitrogen molecular ions (N), which are of importance to the upper atmospheric chemistry of Saturn's moon Titan, were measured for the first time at low translational temperatures. In the experiments, the reaction between sympathetically cooled N ions embedded in laser-cooled Ca Coulomb crystals and velocity-selected acetonitrile molecules generated using a wavy Stark velocity filter was studied to determine the reaction rate coefficients. Capture rate coefficients calculated by the Su-Chesnavich approach and by the perturbed rotational state theory considering the rotational state distribution of CHCN were compared to the experimental rate coefficients.

The term "rough sex" is widely used, but it is not always clear what it means. Through exploring people's working definitions of "rough sex," we asked what they revealed about the underlying phenomenon it is applied to, and whether it is actually thing. Our online survey of 567 New Zealand respondents (73.

Molecular conductance calculations of single-molecule junctions using projection-based density functional embedding.

Single-Molecule Junctions (SMJs) are key platforms for the exploration of electron transport at the molecular scale. In this study, we present a method that employs different exchange-correlation density functionals for the molecule and the lead domains in an SMJ, enabling the selection of the optimal one for each part. This is accomplished using a formally exact projection-based density-functional theory (DFT-in-DFT) embedding technique combined with the non-equilibrium Green's function method to predict zero-bias conductance.

Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries hold significant promise due to high energy density, cost-effectiveness, and ecological sustainability, but their practical applications are constrained by suboptimal electrochemical performance and the detrimental shuttle effect. Herein, a porous, sandwich-structured composite was developed to function as a freestanding cathode designed for Li-S batteries without aluminum foil. Porous carbon nanofibers (PCNF) were employed as the conductive matrix for sulfur, with tungsten carbide (WC) being incorporated to furnish abundant active sites for polysulfide adsorption.
