Using voltage-clamp technique, the role of tyrosine kinases and phosphatidylinositol kinases in the effect of oxidized glutathione (GSSG) and its pharmacological analogue, drug glutoxim, on Na+ transport in the frog Rana temporaria skin was investigated. It was shown for the first time that preincubation of the skin with tyrosine kinase inhibitor genistein or with two structurally distinct phosphatidylinositol kinase inhibitors, wortmannin and LY294002, significantly decreased the stimulatory effect of GSSG or glutoxim on Na+ transport. The data suggest that GSSG and glutoxim might transactivate insulin receptor in the basolateral membrane of epithelial cells and trigger the signaling cascade, involving tyrosine kinases and phosphatidylinositol kinases, which lead to Na+ transport stimulation in frog skin.

Cellular metabolism is inextricably linked to transmembrane levels of proton (H), sodium (Na), and potassium (K) ions. Although reduced sodium-potassium pump (Na-K ATPase) activity in tumors directly disturbs transmembrane Na and K levels, this dysfunction is a result of upregulated aerobic glycolysis generating excessive cytosolic H (and lactate) which are extruded to acidify the interstitial space. These oncogene-directed metabolic changes, affecting intracellular Na and H, can be further exacerbated by upregulation of ion exchangers/transporters.

Recently, the interaction of WNKs with Nuclear Receptor Binding Protein 1 (NRBP1) and Transforming Growth Factor β-Stimulated Clone 22 Domain (TSC22D) proteins was reported. Here we explored the effect of NRBP1 and TSC22Ds on WNK signaling in vitro and in the DCT.

Although low-intensity focused ultrasound (LiFUS) with microbubbles is used to temporally open the blood-brain barrier (BBB), the underlying mechanism is not fully understood. This study aimed to analyze BBB-related alterations in the brain microenvironment after LiFUS, with a focus on the involvement of the purinergic P × receptor. Sprague-Dawley rats were sonicated with LiFUS at 0.

The inherent trade-off between permeability and selectivity has constrained further improvement of passive linear force-electric conversion performance in nanofluidic pressure sensors. To overcome this limitation, a 3D nanofluidic membrane with high mechanical strength utilizing aramid nanofibers/carbon nanofiber (ANF/CNF) dual crosslinking is developed. Due to the abundant surface functional groups of CNF and the high mechanical strength of ANF, this large-scale integrated 3D nanofluidic membrane exhibits advantages of high flux, high porosity, and short ion transport path, demonstrating superior force-electric response compared to conventional 1D and 2D configurations.

Thiazide, thiazide-like, and loop diuretics are primarily known for inhibiting members of the SLC12A family of Cl transporters, which include the Na+Cl cotransporter (NCC), NaK2Cl cotransporters (NKCC1 and NKCC2) and KCl symporters (KCC1-4). While the main pharmacological effect of these diuretics is diuresis, achieved by promoting the excretion of excess water and salt through the kidneys, they have intriguing pharmacological effects beyond their traditional ones which cannot be solely attributed to their effects on renal salt transport. Of particular interest is their role in modulating inflammatory processes.
