The supracricoid laryngectomy is a surgical procedure clearly identifiable, deserving this denomination either in descriptive and differential sense. In the paper the AA. itemize the characteristics of the operation (concept, history, synonymy, the basic points of the technique) and the anatomopathologic fundamentals, even the results published in the literature. Display of own criteria and report of 41 cases operated on and followed up during 5 years (80 percent survivals without recurrence of the growth).

Smoking is an important risk factor in the development of head and neck cancer. However, little is known about its effects on postoperative complications in head and neck cancer surgery. We performed a retrospective analysis on 535 consecutive laryngeal cancer patients submitted to open partial laryngectomy at the Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Department of Florence University to evaluate a possible correlation between smoking and surgical complications.

Background/aim: After external partial laryngectomias, videostroborscopy is very usefull in evaluation of postoperative phonatory mehanisms showing the "slow motion" of the vibrations of the remaining laryngeal structures. The aim of this paper was to compare the videostroboscopic characteristics of the vibration and to establish the differences in the phonation mechanisms depending on the type of external partial laryngectomy performed.

Methods: This prospective study was conducted during the period 2003-2009 at the Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic, Clinical Center of Vojvodina, Novi Sad, including 99 patients with laryngeal carcinoma, treated with open surgical approach using different types of vertical and horizontal partial laryngectomy.

Objective: To compare the results of supracricoid partial laryngectomy-cricohyoidopexy (SCPL-CHP) and horizontal-vertical hemilaryngectomy in the treatment of mid and late laryngeal carcinoma.

Method: Retrospective analysis on the types of mid and late stage of laryngeal carcinoma clinical material, 22 patients supracricoid partial laryngectomy-cricohyoidopexy, 20 patients horizontal-vertical hemilaryngectomy, each with the added radiotherapy. The long term results of operation and glottic reconstruction were evaluated by postoperative visiting, semi-quantitative speech intelligibility analysis, electroglottograph (EGG) and so on.

Objective: We undertook this study to report the possibility of salvage of vertical partial hemilaryngectomy with imbrication laryngoplasty (PVHLIL) to supracricoid partial laryngectomy (SCPL) with cricohyoidoepiglottopexy (CHEP) in a patient with recurrent glottic carcinoma.

Clinical Case: A 68-year-old patient with recurrent glottic squamous cell carcinoma (T1aN0) was treated with imbricated partial laryngectomy. Transoperative histopathological report demonstrated vocal cord free surgical margins anterior at 1 cm and 0.
