Acute aortic syndrome (AAS) refers to the spectrum of aortic emergencies that include aortic dissection, intramural hematoma and penetrating atherosclerotic ulcer. These aortic pathologies may lead to aortic rupture and a timely treatment is crucial to obtain clinical success and benefit on survival. Endovascular strategies have gained wide acceptance in the management of AAS and currently represent the new minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgery. In particular in acute complicated aortic dissection endovascular therapy demonstrated a better survival and limited complications with respect to open surgery. Aim of the present study was to provide an overview of AAS and to assess the current role of endovascular aortic repair in its treatment.

The dissection of the aorta is a serious and potentially fatal consequence of cocaine use. Nonetheless, the underlying mechanisms and characteristics of this phenomenon remain to be deeply studied. The autopsy case of a 46-year-old white male found irresponsive and unconscious in his house and had a history of abusing cocaine is presented.

Angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitor (ARNI) and angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARB) are antihypertension medications that improve cardiac remodeling and protect the heart. However, at the early stage of hypertension, it is still unclear how these two drugs affect the transcriptomic profile of multiple organs in hypertensive rats and the transcriptomic differences between them. We performed RNA sequencing to define the RNA expressing profiles of the eight tissues (atrium, ventricle, aorta, kidney, brain, lung, white fat, and brown fat) in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs) and SHRs treated with ARNI or ARB.

Background: Calcium-mediated autonomic denervation has been shown to suppress postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) after coronary artery bypass grafting.
Objectives: This study sought to evaluate whether similar autonomic denervation can prevent POAF after mitral or aortic valve surgeries.
Methods: This research consisted of 2 single-center, randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled trials: CAP-AF2 (Calcium Autonomic Denervation Prevents Postoperative Atrial Fibrillation in Patients Undergoing Isolated Mitral Valve Surgery for Mitral Regurgitation) for mitral valve (MV) surgery and CAP-AF3 (Calcium Autonomic Denervation Prevents Postoperative Atrial Fibrillation in Patients Undergoing Isolated Aortic Valve Surgery) for aortic valve surgery.
