Background: Development of acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients with sepsis is associated with increased mortality, highlighting the importance of early detection and management. However, baseline creatinine or urine output measurements are required for AKI diagnosis, which can be challenging in emergency departments (EDs). We aimed to evaluate the association between urinary biomarkers and the AKI diagnosis or 30-day survival status in patients with sepsis in the ED.

Due to considerable tumour heterogeneity, stomach adenocarcinoma (STAD) has a poor prognosis and varies in response to treatment, making it one of the main causes of cancer-related mortality globally. Recent data point to a significant role for metabolic reprogramming, namely dysregulated lactic acid metabolism, in the evolution of STAD and treatment resistance. This study used a series of artificial intelligence-related approaches to identify IGFBP7, a Schlafen family member, as a critical factor in determining the response to immunotherapy and lactic acid metabolism in STAD patients.

Similar to the mammalian hepatocytes, oenocytes accumulate fat during fasting, but it is unclear how they communicate with the fat body, the major lipid source. Using a modified protocol for prolonged starvation, we show that knockdown (KD) of the sole delta 9 desaturase, Desat1 (SCD in mammals), specifically in oenocytes leads to more saturated lipids in the hemolymph and reduced triacylglycerol (TAG) storage in the fat body. Additionally, oenocytes with KD exhibited an accumulation of lipoproteins and actin filaments at the cortex, which decreased lipoproteins in the hemolymph.

Senescent cells exert their effects through the release of various factors, collectively referred to as the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP). The SASP can induce senescence in healthy cells (secondary senescence), modulate immune system function, reshape the extracellular matrix, and facilitate cancer progression.Among SASP components, certain factors act as key regulators in the induction of secondary senescence.
