"Health, Technology, and Aging" is a course developed to address three significant contemporary trends: aging populations, increasingly ubiquitous technology, and the economic imperative to encourage entrepreneurship. Course content is a blend of gerontology, informatics, and entrepreneurship designed for nonbusiness majors. Six interdisciplinary faculty modeled synergistic teamwork for the student teams. Findings suggest that students appreciated the interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning and perceived gerotechnology as a promising market for business development. An external panel of judges scored student projects as well described, persuasive, and creative. Two plans of the four projects were judged to have potential for funding.

Intelligent hydrogel has great application potentials in flexible sensing and artificial intelligence devices due to its intrinsic characteristics. However, developing an intelligent hydrogel with favorable properties including high strength, superior toughness, excellent conductivity and ionic sensing via a facile route is still a challenge. Herein, inspired by biologically chelating interactions of phytic acid (PA) in plants, a plant-inspired versatile intelligent nanocomposite hydrogel was readily fabricated by incorporating PA into the interface of fluorescent cellulose nanocrystals (F-CNC).

High incidences of urinary tract infection (UTI) of aminoglycosides-resistant E.coli causes a severe burden for public health. A new therapeutic strategy to ease this crisis is to repurpose non-antibacterial compounds to increase aminoglycosides sensibility against multidrug resistant E.

Owing to its flexibility and high treatment efficiency, phototherapy is rapidly emerging for treating bacteria-induced diseases, but how to improve the sensitivity of bacteria to reactive oxygen species (ROS) and heat simultaneously to kill bacteria under mild conditions is still a challenge. Herein, we designed a NIR light catalyst (BiS--nitrosothiol-acetylcholine (BSNA)) by transforming O into peroxynitrite , which can enhance the bacterial sensibility to ROS and heat and kill bacteria under a mild temperature. The transformed peroxynitrite possessed a stronger ability to penetrate cell membranes and antioxidant capacity.

Dengue virus, one of the most important mosquito-borne viruses, has shown a sharp upward trend, spreading around the world in recent years. Control of vectors and remains crucial for blocking dengue transmission. The lethal ovitrap (LO) is one of the cost-effective traps based on the classic "lure and kill" strategy, and finding a proper long-lasting effective toxin is key to achieving the desired effect.

Drawing on personal testimonials and questions addressed to psychiatric hospital officials, this article explores how patients and their loved ones engaged with the idea of diagnosis in interwar and war-era America. I argue that diagnosis had synergies with intellectual sensibilities of American modernity, among them an enthusiasm for science and newness, a modernist sense of time that could be both forward- and backward-looking, and a knowable, interpreted self. While self-understanding and the creation of life narratives were more often considered the bailiwick of psychoanalysis in this period, understanding subjectivity and self-interpretation were not solely expressed in its conceptual vocabulary.
