Shortened cervical length as a predictor of preterm delivery in twin gestations.

J Reprod Med

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Bayfront Medical Center, Saint Petersburg, FL 33701, USA.

Published: July 2010

Objective: To determine if a shortened screening cervical length measurement in twin gestations, measured between 16 and 24 weeks, is a predictor of preterm delivery.

Study Design: A retrospective chart review was conducted on patients who delivered twins at Bayfront Medical Center between January 1, 2006, and April 1, 2008.

Results: One hundred eighty-three patient charts were reviewed. Ninety-seven patients had a screening cervical length and met inclusion criteria. A shortened cervical length was defined as < or = 25 mm. The sensitivity of a shortened cervical length in predicting preterm delivery at 28, 30 and 32 weeks was 100%, 60% and 43%, respectively. The negative predictive value for preterm delivery was > 95%. The gestational age at delivery was significantly earlier in the shortened cervical length group (33.25 vs. 35.97 weeks, p<0.001). Birth weight was notably lower in the shortened cervical length group (1,889 vs. 2,451 g, p<0.001).

Conclusion: The greatest value of screening cervical length in twin gestations lies in its negative predictive value; however, screening twins may be helpful in identifying those women who will delivery prematurely.

TiRobot-assisted versus freehand femoral neck system placement in the treatment of femoral neck fractures: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

J Robot Surg

January 2025

The Third Ward of Orthopaedic Department, General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University, 804 Shengli South Street, Hui Autonomous Region, Yinchuan, Ningxia, 750004, People's Republic of China.

The purpose of this study is to assess the safety and effectiveness of TiRobot-assisted treatment for femoral neck fractures, in comparison to traditional freehand treatment methods. Throughout the research process, we conducted an extensive literature search across numerous databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), CQVIP, and Wanfang. Based on the literature screening criteria, we selected six studies, encompassing 358 cases of femoral neck fracture patients, for this meta-analysis.

Head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCCs) represent a heterogeneous group of malignancies with multifactorial aetiologies. High-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) infections, particularly HPV16, and the dysregulation of telomerase activity, specifically through its catalytic subunit, telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) are among the key contributors to HNSCC development and progression. HPV promotes oncogenesis via the E6 and E7 oncoproteins, which inactivate tumour suppressors TP53 and RB1, leading to unchecked cellular proliferation.

Predictive factors for drainage in pediatric cervical lymphadenitis: A study of clinical indicators and recovery outcomes.

Am J Otolaryngol

December 2024

Health Scıences Unıversıty Ankara Dr. Sami Ulus Gynecology, Child Health and Diseases Hospital, Department of Pediatrics, Ankara, Türkiye.

Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the predictive factors for drainage in patients hospitalized with cervical lymphadenitis in the Pediatrics Infectious Diseases Department and to differentiate the recovery time between patients who received antibiotic treatment only and those who received drainage for their lymphadenitis.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 169 patients selected for this study, aged 1 month to 18 years, who were followed up with a diagnosis of cervical lymphadenitis between January 2011 and December 2019. Clinical features such as sex, age, physical examination findings, laboratory findings, imaging findings, and antibiotic treatments were retrospectively reviewed.

Swedish Warmblood horses (SWB) are bred for show jumping and/or dressage with young horse test scores as indicator traits. This study aimed to investigate possible candidate genes and regions of importance for evaluated and linearly scored young horse test traits. A single-step genome-wide association study (ssGWAS) was done using the BLUPF90 suite of programs for factors scores from factor analysis of traits assessed at young horse tests together with height at withers.
