The anatomy of the sciatic nerve allows it to be blocked at different levels using various anesthetic approaches. However, for several reasons, performing these approaches may be challenging or disadvantageous in specific categories of patients, particularly in obese patients. The objective of this brief technical report is to describe a new technical approach to sciatic nerve block, designed to simplify the procedure for certain categories of patients and less experienced practitioners.

There is an increasing global acknowledgment of the critical role that men have as key partners in maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH). Most male-engagement initiatives do not address the perceived benefits and risks that women may experience because of increased male participation in MNCH, especially in Kenya. The aim of this study, therefore, is to qualitatively assess how women perceive and experience increased male engagement in MNCH in western Kenya.

The WHO documents a quadrupling of people with diabetes in a 34-year period to 422 million in 2014, the overwhelming majority of whom were T2DM. This happened despite extensive scientific literature on the causes of, as well as proven treatments for, this disease.

A world apart from academic research, the path from developing a polyphenol-rich crop to a product available to consumers is not one taken by many research scientists. Here we review the steps taken to commercialize anthocyanin-enriched purple tomatoes in the USA. In describing some of the difficulties encountered and the work that was necessary for a successful commercial launch of a new biotech product, we hope to encourage others to believe that there is a viable route to market, and an appetite for polyphenol-enriched foods that can protect health.
