Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of a modeled microgravity environment on the antimicrobial resistance of Acinetobacter baumannii.

Design: Clinical isolates of A. baumannii (n=10) in Mueller Hinton broth were grown in high aspect ratio vessels using a rotary cell culture system oriented to achieve either normal earth gravity (1 x G) or low sheer modeled microgravity (LSMMG) conditions. After culture MICs were determined by Etest. Antimicrobials included in the study were amikacin, ampicillin/sulbactam, azithromycin, ceftazidime, gatifloxacin, gentamicin, imipenem, meropenem, minocycline, ticarcillin/clavulanic acid, tigecycline, and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole. Results were compared for MIC value and category interpretation (S, I, R).

Results: Overall category agreement was 100% (360/360). 100% of MIC values compared were within one twofold dilution of each other.

Conclusion: Under these test conditions LSMMG had no apparent effect on the resistance pattern of A. baumannii.

Spaceflight-induced osteoporosis (SFOP) is a detrimental healthcare consequence during spaceflight. Weightlessness and ionizing radiation were main environmental factors that contribute to SFOP, especially in the manned deep space voyages. However, currently there is scarce effective method to treat SFOP.

Introduction: Facial expression perception is the process by which someone can interpret the emotion of another individual using their facial cues. Below-average scores on tests designed to measure facial expression recognition (FER) accuracies are associated with inappropriate behavioral responses and are often linked to mental or neurological disorders. Head-down bed rest microgravity analog studies show changes in facial emotion processing that may indicate a behavioral health risk during spaceflight.

In this paper, two triazine ring-containing quaternary ammonium salt Gemini surfactants (C-2-C and C-2-C) were synthesized. The minimum inhibitory concentrations against sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) of C-2-C, C-2-C and dodecyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride (1227) were determined using the double-dilution method. The performance of C-2-C and C-2-C in inhibiting carbon steel corrosion in the presence of SRB was examined, with 1227 serving as a control sample.

Objective: In this study, we analyzed the transcriptome sequences of Kupffer cells exposed to simulated microgravity for 3 d and conducted biological experiments to determine how microgravity initiates apoptosis in Kupffer cells.

Methods: Rotary cell culture system was used to construct a simulated microgravity model. GO and KEGG analyses were conducted using the DAVID database.

Microgravity's effects on miRNA-mRNA regulatory networks in a mouse model of segmental bone defects.

Rehabilitation from musculoskeletal injuries (MSKI) complicate healing dynamics typically by sustained disuse of bone and muscles. Microgravity naturally allows limb disuse and thus an effective model to understand MSKI. The current study examined epigenetic changes in a segmental bone defect (SBD) mouse model in a prolonged unloading condition after spaceflight (FLT).
