UV-VIS absorption and fluorescence spectroscopic properties of six related polyaromatic 2-pyridones have been studied. Excitation of the lowest and rather weak and structure-less transition [ε (max) (430 nm) ≈ 3,000 mol(-1)dm(3)cm(-1)] gives rise to a broad fluorescence band in the visible region, for these compounds. These S (0) ↔ S (1) transitions are compatible with symmetrically forbidden transitions, promoted by intensity borrowing, as is revealed by fluorescence depolarisation data. With one exception, all compounds exhibit strong fluorescence, with quantum yields in glycerol varying between 40% and 70%. The corresponding fluorescence lifetimes range from 11 ns to 17 ns, while the radiative lifetimes are very similar (≈26 ns), for all compounds. Interestingly and rarely observed, the calculated radiative lifetimes for the weak absorption band are significantly longer, i.e. between 37 and 40 ns.

Chemical polymerization/oligomerization opens numerous opportunities, from fundamental materials research to practical applications in catalysis, energy, sensing, and medicine. The electrochemical detection of vitamins B (folic acid) and C (ascorbic acid) requires new approaches because of low selectivity, electrode fouling, and interference from other chemicals. As an excellent material for long-term vitamin detection, oligo 3,5-diamino-1,2,4-triazole (oligo DAT) enhances the sensitivity, selectivity, and stability of sensors by creating a stable, conductive layer that facilitates electron transfer and reduces interference from common substances like glucose or uric acid.

The James Webb Space Telescope has discovered a surprising population of bright galaxies in the very early Universe (≲500 Myr after the Big Bang) that is hard to explain with conventional galaxy-formation models and whose physical properties are not fully understood. Insight into their internal physics is best captured through nebular lines, but at these early epochs, the brightest of these spectral features are redshifted into the mid-infrared and remain elusive. Using the mid-infrared instrument onboard the James Webb Space Telescope, here we present a detection of Hα and doubly ionized oxygen ([O iii] 4959,5007 Å) from the bright, ultra-high-redshift galaxy candidate GHZ2/GLASS-z12.

In this study, dye/polymer matrix-stabilized β-FeOOH nanomaterials were fabricated for therapeutic applications. Rh-B/F127@β-FeOOH nanomaterials were synthesized using two different methods: co-precipitation (CoP) and hydrothermal (HT) methods. The as-synthesized nanoparticles were characterized using various spectroscopic techniques, including FT-IR, UV-Vis, PL, XRD, HR-TEM, and XPS analysis.

Linkage Microenvironment Modulation in Triazine-Based Covalent Organic Frameworks for Enhanced Photocatalytic Hydrogen Peroxide Production.

January 2025

Hubei Key Lab on Organic and Polymeric Optoelectronic Materials, College of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences, Wuhan University, Wuhan, 430072, China.

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs), known for the precise tunability of molecular structures, hold significant promise for photocatalytic hydrogen peroxide (HO) production. Herein, by systematically altering the quinoline (QN) linkages in triazine (TA)-based COFs via the multi-component reactions, six R-QN-TA-COFs are synthesized with identical skeletons but different substituents. The fine-tuning of the optoelectronic properties and local microenvironment of COFs is allowed, thereby optimizing charge separation and improving interactions with dissolved oxygen.
