We recorded magnetoencephalographic auditory steady state responses (SSR) from eight schizoaffective (SAD) subjects and compared the resulting data with previously published findings in persons with schizophrenia (SZ) and controls. SAD subjects exhibited SSR responses similar to controls in the left hemisphere and greater than controls in the right hemisphere, whereas SZ subjects exhibited deficits in both amplitude and phase control in both hemispheres. Our findings suggest preservation of GABAergic inhibitory interneuronal control of layer 3 pyramidal cell activity in primary auditory cortex in SAD.

Middle Eastern countries, such as the United Arab Emirates and Oman, are affected by frequent dust storms and extreme hot climatic conditions, which can exacerbate respiratory conditions. These environmental factors are particularly injurious to asthmatic patients, as they can aggravate small airway disease (SAD), leading to increased morbidity and healthcare challenges. The evaluation of maximal mid-expiratory flow (MEF-25) as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool for early-stage small airway dysfunction is of significant clinical importance, particularly in hot and arid metropolitan environments where dusty conditions exacerbate pulmonary issues.

Background: Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the accumulation of pathological proteins and synaptic dysfunction. This study aims to investigate the molecular and functional differences between human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) derived from patients with sporadic AD (sAD) and age-matched controls (healthy subjects, HS), focusing on their neuronal differentiation and synaptic properties in order to better understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying AD pathology.
Methods: Skin fibroblasts from sAD patients (n = 5) and HS subjects (n = 5) were reprogrammed into hiPSCs using non-integrating Sendai virus vectors.

Background: Gliclazide, a second-generation sulfonylurea derivative still widely used as a second-line treatment for type 2 diabetes mellitus, is well known to be subject to interindividual differences in bioavailability, leading to variations in therapeutic responses among patients. Distinct gut microbiota profiles among individuals are one of the most crucial yet commonly overlooked factors contributing to the variable bioavailability of numerous drugs. In light of the shift towards a more patient-centered approach in diabetes treatment, this study aimed to conduct a pharmacoinformatic analysis of gliclazide metabolites produced by gut microbiota and assess their docking potential with the SUR1 receptor to identify compounds with improved pharmacological profiles compared to the parent drug.
