Background/aims: Snowboard riding has increased in popularity during the last decade and is also remarkable for its dramatic rise in association with serious injuries. The aim of this study was to evaluate the nature of dental or orofacial trauma in snowboard riders in Turkey, as well as to investigate if adolescent and young adult snowboard riders were aware of any protective measures.
Methods: An epidemiological survey was carried out through interviews with 86 snowboard riders in Turkey.
Results And Conclusions: Seventeen snowboard riders had been affected by orofacial trauma. Results revealed that all snowboarders were aware of helmet protection whereas 50 out of 86 (58%) reported that they used them. It should be concluded that from the moment a youngster begins to practice snowboard riding, (s)he should be encouraged to wear a helmet and a properly fitted mouthguard as part of the necessary protection for them to safely enjoy their sport.

In snowboard freestyle disciplines, the amount of rotation is commonly determined as the sum of rotations around all board axes and is the most important indicator of the trick difficulty across all snowboard freestyle disciplines. Based on the type of rotation, tricks can be classified as flatspins, corks and flips. It is not yet known whether the type of rotation of a trick can influence the actual amount of rotation.

Purpose: To generate national estimates of sports-related traumatic lumbar spine injury incidence rates using the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) database and determine any sports- and sex-specific epidemiologic patterns of these traumatic injuries.
Methods: Data regarding traumatic lumbar spine injuries sustained through sporting activities from 2009 to 2018 were extracted from the NEISS, a database generating nationwide estimates through patient information collected during emergency department visits from 100 NEISS hospitals across the United States. The estimated number of injuries was calculated using weights assigned by the NEISS database depending on the geographic location of the injury.
