Energy absorbtion from particles and photons moving at relativistic speeds has been a fundamental part of life on earth and wherever else life might exist. Heat and visible light have deeply influenced the course of human evolution, affecting habitat and nutrition. The photons of ionizing radiation that over time can possibly affect evolution, contribute to the more immediate problem of morbidity and mortality of cancer This review addresses our radiative energy absorbtion, from both natural and manmade sources, and its relationship with disease and death. Educational Public Health efforts to offset the dangers of solar ultraviolet overexposure are presented, together with data on the significant mortality of metastatic melanoma.

Combined cooling, heating and power (CCHP) is one of methods for enhancing the efficiency of the energy conversion systems. In this study a CCHP system consisting of a gas turbin (GT) as the topping cycle, and an organic Rankine cycle (ORC) associated with double-effect absorbtion chiller (DEACH) is decisioned as the bottoming cycle to recover the waste heat from GT exhaust gas. The considered CCHP system is investigated to maintain electricity, heating and cooling demand of a town.

The horse hoof wall exhibits exceptional impact resistance and fracture control due to its unique hierarchical structure which contains tubular, lamellar, and gradient configurations. In this study, structural characterization of the hoof wall was performed revealing features previously unknown. Prominent among them are tubule bridges, which are imaged and quantified.

The present study describes the development of a fit-for-purpose analytical procedure for the detection of Ag NPs in different marine organisms by Solid Sampling Continuous Source High Resolution Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (SS-CS-HR-AAS). The detection is based on the observation of the Ag absorption peak and its atomization delay t which is different for ionic Ag and Ag NPs. A relatively new class of two-dimensional (2D) materials called MXenes have garnered tremendous interest in the field of energy storage and conversion. Thus far nearly all MXenes reported experimentally have been described as metals, with a lone report of a mixed-metal carbide phase exhibiting semiconducting character. Here, we report the optical, electrocatalytic, and electrical properties of the 2D TiNT MXene (T = basal plane surface terminating groups) and show that this material exhbits both metallic and semiconducting behaviors.
