Background: Primary squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the middle ear is rare, with non-keratinizing basaloid types being exceptionally uncommon. Distinguishing these cancers, often caused by viral factors (, human papillomavirus or Epstein-Barr virus), or specific genetic alterations (, bromodomain-containing protein 4-nuclear protein in or gene fused with FLI chromosomal rearrangement), from other cranial conditions, is difficult. The recently identified DEK::AFF2 non-keratinizing SCC (NKSCC) is a novel subtype, fitting the World Health Organization classification of head and neck neoplasms.

One of the goals in synthetic chemistry is to obtain compounds featuring unusual valence states that are stable under ambient conditions. At present, stabilizing unusual Pt(III) states is considered difficult, except through direct Pt-Pt bonding such as that in platinum-blues or organometallization using bulky ligands. Pt(III) stabilization is also very difficult in halogen-bridged metal complex chains (MX-Chains).

Cortisol, and other glucocorticoids, are routinely used as markers of physiological stress in wildlife. Typically, stress activates the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, with adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) signaling the adrenal glands to release cortisol. Nevertheless, recent anecdotes in captive Coquerel's sifakas (), strepsirrhine primates that are difficult to maintain under human care, may challenge the assumption that physiological stress universally increases circulating cortisol.

Facial nerve schwannomas (FNSs) eroding through the external auditory canal (EAC) are unusual and present difficult management options.When facial nerve function is normal, observation is generally recommended.If the tumor completely obstructs the EAC creating a conductive hearing loss as in this case, mapping of the motor fibers of the facial nerve may be considered with partial resection to alleviate the conductive hearing loss.

Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is a classic representative of the group of prion diseases and is characterized by progressive degeneration of the structures of the nervous system with a variety of neurological symptoms, steady progression and inevitable death. The disease is based on a change in the tertiary structure of the protein, which leads to disruption of the normal functioning of cells. Despite the fact that the etiology and pathogenesis of CJD are now well studied, intravital diagnosis of this serious disease remains difficult due to the peculiarities of the pathological process (unusually long incubation period, variety of clinical symptoms), the lack of pathognomonic markers that make it possible to make a diagnosis with a high degree of confidence, and also insufficient awareness of medical workers.
