Aim: Analyse the use of the Extra-Corporeal Circulation (ECC) in no-cardiac operations at the Clinica Universidad de Navarra.
Material Of Study: Between 1985 and 2009, the ECC has been involved in 28 operations for retroperitoneal tumour with inferior vena cava thrombus, in 43 isolated hyperthermic perfusion of a limb for locally advanced cancer and in 8 cases of chest mass with invasion of the pulmonary veins or bronchial carina.
Results: The intraoperative mortality for renal cancer has been of 7% while the 28% of patients showed a major complication. None patient died for the isolated hyperthermic perfusion and the 81% showed no toxicity. 1 patient out of 8 for chest mass died during the surgery for impossibility of weaning from the ECC.
Discussion: The ECC has been utilised in our experience mostly in cases of advanced cancer. It is an aggressive technique with a certain rate of complications. Nevertheless mid- and long-term results are encouraging.
Conclusion: The ECC is the only technique in some advanced cancer in order to safely perform the mass removal. The precise co-ordination of the team is necessary to reduce the complication rate.

Importance: High-quality colonoscopy reduces the risks of colorectal cancer by increasing the adenoma detection rate. Routine use of an automatic quality control system (AQCS) to assist in colorectal adenoma detection should be considered.
Objective: To evaluate the effect of an AQCS on the adenoma detection rate among colonoscopists who were moderate- and low-level detectors during routine colonoscopy.

Cellular plasticity, the remarkable adaptability of cancer cells to survive under various stress conditions, is a fundamental hallmark that significantly contributes to treatment resistance, tumor metastasis, and disease recurrence. Oncogenes, the driver genes that promote uncontrolled cell proliferation, have long been recognized as key drivers of cellular transformation and tumorigenesis. Paradoxically, accumulating evidence demonstrates that targeting certain oncogenes to inhibit tumor cell proliferation can unexpectedly induce processes like epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), conferring enhanced invasive and metastatic capabilities.

Optimizing central carbon metabolism (CCM) represents an attractive and challenging strategy to improve the biosynthesis of valuable chemicals due to the complex regulation of the CCM in yeast. In this study, we triggered the similar Warburg effect of cancer cells in yeast strains by introducing the human hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) complex, which regulated the expression of numerous enzymes involved in CCM and redirected the metabolic flux from glycolysis to tricarboxylic acid cycle. This redirection promoted the production of squalene to a 2.

Retrotransposons are highly prevalent in most animals and account for more than 35% of the human genome. However, the prevalence, biogenesis mechanism and function of retrotransposons remain largely unknown. Here, we developed retroSeeker, a novel computational software that identifies novel retrotransposons from pairwise alignments of genomes and decodes their biogenesis, expression, evolution and potential functions.

Somatic clonal expansion refers to the proliferation and expansion of a cell clone within a multicellular organism. Since cancer also results from the uncontrolled proliferation of few cell clones, it is generally believed that aging-associated somatic clonal expansion observed in normal tissues represents a precancerous condition. For instance, hematological malignancy is often preceded by clonal hematopoiesis.
