Background: Psychiatric illness is thought to be a brain somatic crosstalk disorder. However, the existing phenomenology-based Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5) diagnostic framework overlooks various dimensions other than symptoms. In this study, we investigated the associations between peripheral blood test indexes with various symptom levels of major depressive disorder (MDD), bipolar disorder (BD), and schizophrenia (SCZ) to explore the availability of peripheral blood test indexes.

Postpartum psychosis is a severe psychiatric condition marked by the abrupt onset of psychosis, mania, or psychotic depression following childbirth. Despite evidence for a strong genetic basis, the roles of common and rare genetic variation remain poorly understood. Leveraging data from Swedish national registers and genomic data from the All of Us Research Program, we estimated family-based heritability at 55% and WGS-based heritability at 37%, with an overrepresentation on the X chromosome.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of adjunctive topiramate (TPM) for the treatment of cannabis use disorder in adolescents with bipolar I disorder.
Method: We conducted a 16-week, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled investigation of quetiapine plus TPM (median dose = 208 mg) vs quetiapine plus placebo in adolescents with bipolar I and cannabis use disorder. All subjects participated in a Motivational Interview and Compliance Enhancement Therapy.
