The acupuncture manipulation is an important factor for achieving a good therapeutic effect in acupuncture practice. The authors review recent studies on acupuncture manipulation and its qualification from (a) differences of the therapeutic effects of acupuncture manipulation, (b) quantification of acupuncture manipulations, and (c) instruments for delivering and sampling the analogued parameters of different acupuncture manipulations, computer analysis software, etc. Most studies revealed that different acupuncture manipulations had different clinical efficacies. Meanwhile, researches on the quantification of acupuncture manipulations and some related instruments also have made a bigger progress. Nevertheless, there still exist many problems, such as difficulties of various acupuncture techniques in unification in clinic, stronger personal subjectivity in performing manipulations, etc. We should overcome these problems and conduct more researches, so as to raise the clinical curative effect further.

Objective: To compare the clinical efficacy and safety of four intervention methods-traditional Chinese manipulation combined with acupuncture, acupuncture alone, manipulation alone, and traction-for the treatment of lumbar disc herniation (LDH).
Methods: A prospective, multi-arm, randomized, parallel-controlled clinical trial was conducted between July 2021 and June 2024. A total of 240 eligible LDH patients were randomized into four groups (60 patients per group) in a 1:1:1:1 ratio: manipulation combined with acupuncture group, manipulation group, acupuncture group, and traction group.

Intelligent stimuli-responsive actuators that can convert environmental energies into mechanical works have garnered significant research interests. Among different actuation principles, Marangoni effect is distinguished due to simplicity, high efficiency, remote manipulation, and water environment adaptability. Nevertheless, both chemical and physical Marangoni actuators face their own challenges with respect to limited chemical loading, precise light illumination, and relatively poor motion controllability.

Haemorrhoids are a common anorectal disease primarily treated through surgery, often leading to complications such as pain. The efficacy of acupuncture in relieving postoperative pain in mixed haemorrhoids has not been well-documented. This study included 90 patients undergoing haemorrhoid surgery and their Visual Analogue Score (VAS), inflammatory factor levels, Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD), and analgesic drug use were accessed.

The sensation of sng (pronounced/səŋ/, the Romanization form of or soreness in Taiwanese Southern Min) associated with a composite of unique sensations, is a novel phenotype for acupoint stimulation. It is perceived by test participants but also by experienced practitioners as a sensation of "taking the bait" (by fish when fishing), a characteristic heavy and tight sensation from the needle. Here, we propose that sng is a powerful biomarker for associated with successful manual acupuncture.

The paper reports one case of osteitis condensans ilii treated with acupuncture in the young and middle-aged female patient. Based on the "analogy" thinking, bilateral Chengshan (BL57) and Ximen (PC4) were selected. The short needling was delivered at Chengshan (BL57), in which, the needle tip went directly to the bone surface and the needle was lifted and thrusted to induce the tolerable sensation.
