Several transscleral suturing techniques require intricate surgical maneuvers and are associated with an increased risk for surgical trauma. We describe a new scleral fixation method that combines the advantages of temporary haptic externalization and injector implantation of an intraocular lens (IOL). After IOL insertion with the injector, each haptic is externalized through 2 adjacent corneal incisions. A 10-0 polypropylene suture loop is made at each exposed haptic and transscleral IOL fixation performed. This modified technique is a safe and effective way to fixate the IOL in eyes with insufficient capsule support.

Zygomatic implant placement using a robot-assisted flapless protocol: proof of concept.

Robotic assistance can help in physically guiding the drilling trajectory during zygomatic implant positioning. A new robot-assisted strategy for a flapless zygomatic implant placement protocol is reported here. In this protocol, a preoperative computed tomography scan is used to plan the surgical path.

Distinguishing transient from persistent tactile agnosia after partial anterior circulation infarcts - Behavioral and neuroimaging evidence for white matter disconnection.

Support Centre for Advanced Neuroimaging (SCAN), Institute for Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology, Inselspital, Bern University Hospital, University of Bern, Bern, Switzerland.

From a cohort of 36 patients presenting apperceptive tactile agnosia after first cortical ischemic stroke, 14 showed temporary impairment at admission. A previous multi-voxel analysis of the cortical lesions, using as explanatory variable the course of tactile object recognition performance over the recovery period of 9 months, partitioned the cohort into three subgroups. Of the 14 patients constituting two of the subgroups, 7 recovered from their impairment whereas 7 did not.

Purpose: To report a case of the resolution of Uveitis-Glaucoma-Hyphema (UGH) Syndrome after a solid state 532 nm frequency-doubled neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) laser iridoplasty guided by temporary conjunctival markings.

Design: Interventional Case Report.

Methods: In a case of UGH Syndrome in a 79 year-old male, the decision was made to perform a Nd:YAG laser iridoplasty guided by temporary conjunctival markings along the transilluminated defects created from the IOL haptic.

Vision and touch play a critical role in spatial development, facilitating the acquisition of allocentric and egocentric frames of reference, respectively. Previous works have shown that children's ability to adopt an allocentric frame of reference might be impaired by the absence of visual experience during growth. In the current work, we investigated whether visual deprivation also impairs the ability to shift from egocentric to allocentric frames of reference in a switching-perspective task performed in the visual and haptic domains.

Scleral fixation of hydrophobic acrylic intraocular lenses using a suture burial technique.

Indian J Ophthalmol

June 2021

Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology, Istanbul, Turkey.

The procedure involved an ab-externo scleral fixation technique using a double-armed 10-0 polypropylene suture with straight needles that require no scleral flaps. The IOLs are sutured to the sclera, the free suture ends are tied to the suture loops, and they are buried together under the sclera. Forty eyes of 37 patients were included.
