Objective: To explore the impact of glaucoma on the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) optical density ratio (ODR) by volumetric optical coherence tomography (OCT) under different analytical radii.
Methods: Twenty-five eyes identified as healthy and 57 eyes with a glaucoma diagnosis (23 mild and 34 moderate-advanced cases) underwent volumetric OCT scans centered at the optic nerve head. Cross-sectional images were obtained through 5 distinct analytical circles with varying radii.

Purpose: Diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI) quantitatively estimates brain microstructure, diffusion tractography being one clinically utilized framework. To advance such dMRI approaches, direct quantitative comparisons between microscale anisotropy and orientation are imperative. Complete backscattering Mueller matrix polarized light imaging (PLI) enables the imaging of thin and thick tissue specimens to acquire numerous optical metrics not possible through conventional transmission PLI methods.

We present the first controlled-environment measurements of the optical path-length change response of telecommunication submarine cables to active seismic and acoustic waves. We perform the comparison among integrated (optical interferometry) and distributed (distributed acoustic sensing, DAS) fibre measurements and ground truth data acquired by 58 geophones, 20 three-axis seismometers and 7 microphones. The comparison between different seismic acquisition methods is an essential step towards full validation and calibration of the data acquired using novel cable-based sensing techniques.

Monitoring of real-time flow and defects in the vacuum-assisted resin infusion (VARI) process can provide important guidelines for full impregnation of dry reinforcement. A weak fiber Bragg grating array was employed to obtain quasi-distributed monitoring results in real-time. Sensitivity testing of different kinds of coated optical fiber sensors (OFs) was carried out first, and the polyacrylate-coated OF showed a greater wavelength-shift response than the polyimide-coated one.

Because of their high spatial resolution over extended lengths, distributed fiber optic sensors (DFOS) enable us to monitor a wide range of structural effects and offer great potential for diverse structural health monitoring (SHM) applications. However, even under controlled conditions, the useful signal in distributed strain sensing (DSS) data can be concealed by different types of measurement principle-related disturbances: strain reading anomalies (SRAs), dropouts, and noise. These disturbances can render the extraction of information for SHM difficult or even impossible.
