AI Article Synopsis

  • A new method is introduced for defining the parameters of cylindrical cloaks, allowing them to be calculated independently from the usual coordinate transformation knowledge.
  • The parameters are derived using cloaking generators in integral form, providing a flexible approach to analyze different parametric profiles.
  • Full-wave numerical simulations confirm the effectiveness of this inverse method and demonstrate the invisibility features of the cloaked cylinders.

Article Abstract

An inverse way to define the parameters of cylindrical cloaks is developed, in which the cloaking parameters can be independently obtained without any knowledge of the corresponding coordinate transformation. The required parameters are derived in terms of the integral form of cloaking generators, which are very general and allow us to examine the significance of the parametric profiles. The validity of such inverse way and the invisibility characteristics are presented in full-wave numerical simulation of plane wave scattering by cloaked cylinders.

Broadband metamaterial absorbers in the long wavelength infrared region are promising in applications including thermal imaging, cloaking, radiative cooling and IR signature suppression. Although high absorption over the long wavelength infrared region has been extensively achieved, the challenge is to shrink both the thickness and lateral footprint of unit absorbing structures. Here, a compact broadband long wavelength infrared metamaterial absorber consisting of multilayered Ge/Ti/Ge/SiO hybrid cylindrical structures, whose period and thickness are only ∼1.

The existence of a non-electrically-small scatterer adjacent to the source can severely distort the radiation and lead to a poor electromagnetic compatibility. In this work, we use a conducting hollow cylinder to shield a cylindrical scatterer. The cylinder is shelled with a single dielectric layer enclosed by an electromagnetic metasurface.

Combining virtual sensing (VS) with scattered sound control enables active acoustic cloaking when there are limitations in sensor configurations. The remote microphone method and additional filter method (AFM) are two common VS methods, and both can be divided into the training and control stages; the consistency of the environments in these two stages is essential for the control system. This paper investigates the effects of uncertainties in the incidence angle of the detection wave on these two VS-based scattered sound control methods.

This paper proposes the experimental demonstration of an anapole-based cylindrical electromagnetic cloaking scheme. An anapole state is excited by arranging around a cylindrical metallic target vertical split-ring resonators, forming an equivalent surface admittance boundary condition able to suppress the scattering. Using Mie formalism and multipole scattering theory, we identify the actual reason behind the cloaking operation, characterizing the anapole condition by the scattering contributions from toroidal and electric dipole moments.

The cloaking characteristics of biocells can be considered as a factor to determine drug absorption by the tissues. The metal-organic core-shell structure can act as a cloak around the molecules of tissue and can be used as a nanomachine for drug delivery. Thus, we define a ratio of drug absorption based on frequency red-shift and the effective permittivity in the optical spectrum.
