Desalination of seawater by forward osmosis is a technology potentially able to address the global water scarcity problem. The major challenge limiting its widespread practical application is the design of a draw solute that can be separated from water by an energetically efficient process and then reused for the next cycle. Recent experiments demonstrate that a promising draw solute for forward-osmosis desalination is tetrabutylphosphonium 2,4,6-trimethylbenzenesulfonate ([P][TMBS]).

Background: There is frequent academic exchange between Switzerland, Germany and Austria, facilitated by the common language. Additionally, the postgraduate training curricula in obstetrics and gynecology show some similarities. We aimed to compare self-perceived level of ability, availability of simulation training and teaching and feedback culture among residents in obstetrics and gynecology in Switzerland, Germany, and Austria.

Previous studies have suggested that ginsenoside Rg glycine ester derivative (RG) exhibits therapeutic potential in mitigating hypoxia. This study aimed to elucidate the potential mechanism of RG in hypoxia injury through a combined approach of metabolomics and network pharmacology. Initially, a CoCl-induced cell hypoxia model was established, and the therapeutic impact of RG on biochemical indices was evaluated.

Cognitive Trajectory Before and After Cataract Surgery: A Population-Based Approach.

J Am Geriatr Soc

January 2025

Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care, University of California, San Francisco, San Francisco, California, USA.

Background: Cataract surgery is the most common surgical procedure performed for older US adults. Cataracts are associated with poor cognition and higher rates of dementia, but whether cataract surgery improves cognition for US older adults is not known. We examined the relationship between cataract surgery and long-term change in cognition in the Health and Retirement Study, a population-based study of older US adults linked with Medicare billing data.

LC-MS/MS Analyzing Praziquantel and 4-Hydroxypraziquantel Enantiomers in Black Goat Plasma and Mechanism of Stereoselective Pharmacokinetics.

Biomed Chromatogr

February 2025

Guangdong Provincial key Laboratory of Veterinary Pharmaceutics Development and Safety Evaluation, South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou, China.

Praziquantel (PZQ) is the most effective treatment for schistosomiasis, commonly administered as a racemic mixture of the two enantiomers. Despite many reports on the pharmacokinetics of PZQ, the stereoselective pharmacokinetics of PZQ and its major metabolite 4-hydroxypraziquantel (4-OH-PZQ) remain poorly understood in goats. In this study, the chiral LC-MS/MS method was further optimized for separating and quantifying PZQ, trans-4-OH-PZQ, and cis-4-OH-PZQ and their enantiomers and then applied for the molecular pharmacokinetics of three analytes in black goat plasma.
