We propose a method for filtering convergent light beams with arbitrary polarization. For this purpose, a tandem of similar acousto-optic tunable filters was applied. Owing to the special mutual orientation of the cells, two coincident beams with ordinary and extraordinary polarizations were diffracted by the first crystal and the second crystal, respectively.

Metasurface holograms offer various advantages, including wide viewing angle, small volume, and high resolution. However, full-color animation of high-resolution images has been a challenging issue. In this study, a full-color dielectric metasurface holographic movie with a resolution of 2322 × 2322 was achieved by spatiotemporally multiplexing 30 frames with blue, green, and red color channels at the wavelengths of 445 nm, 532 nm, and 633 nm at the maximum reconstruction speed of 55.

The significance of antireflection has persisted over time due to its numerous optical applications. To achieve broadband antireflection, multiple element-based designs using graded-index films or multiresonant nanostructures have been conventionally employed. In this work, we propose an additional degree of freedom in developing antireflection by manipulating the orientation angles of nanostructures to achieve the symmetry-dependent Kerker condition.

Achromatic metalenses for full visible spectrum with extended group delay control via dispersion-matched layers.

Nat Commun

Department of Electrical Engineering, The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Pennsylvania, USA.

Achieving achromaticity across the visible light spectrum is crucial for metalenses in imaging systems. Single-layer metalenses struggle with weak focusing power or small aperture sizes due to inadequate group delay control. Multilayer metalenses offer some improvement but come with increased design and fabrication complexity.

Edge Detection Imaging by Quasi-Bound States in the Continuum.

Nano Lett

November 2024

School of Information Engineering, Nanchang University, Nanchang 330031, China.

Optical metasurfaces have revolutionized analog computing and image processing at subwavelength scales with faster speed and lower power consumption. They typically involve spatial differentiation with an engineered angular dispersion. Quasi-bound states in the continuum (quasi-BICs) have emerged as powerful tools for customizing optical resonances.

In previous edge detection schemes based on the spin-orbit interaction of light, the direction and intensity of the edge-enhanced images are influenced by the incident polarization state. In this study, we develop an edge detection strategy that is insensitive to changes in both the incident polarization and the incident angle. The output intensity and transfer function remain entirely impervious to changes in incident polarization, being explicitly formulated as functions of the incident angle, specifically in terms of ⁡ and ⁡ , respectively.
