Introduction: The study was designed to determine if there was a difference between apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values using diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) MRI technique between different malignant focal liver lesions.

Patients And Methods: The study included 63 patients with focal hepatic lesions: fourteen patients (22.2%) with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), 16 patients (25.4%) with hepatic metastatic colorectal tumors, 17 patients (26.9%) with cavernous haemangioma and 16 patients (25.4%) with hepatic cysts. MRI was performed with 1.5T scanner, using EPI sequence with ADC values being determined for all lesions based on three b values.

Results: ADC values were statistically different among the groups (F = 70.7, p < 0.01): HCC patients 1.11 +/- 0.29 x 10(-3) s/mm2, metastatic tumours 2.18 +/- 0.15 x 10(-3) s/mm2, haemangioma 2.22 +/- 0.32 x 10(-3) s/mm, cysts 3.08 +/- 0.03 x 10(-3) s/mm2. Furthermore, there was statistically significant difference between benign lesions (haemangiom and cysts, 2.36 +/- 0.43 x 10(-3) s/mm2), and malignant diseases (HCC and secondary tumors, 1.52 +/- 0.58 x 10(-3) s/mm2), t = 5,6, p < 0.01.

Conclusion: DWI technique could be helpful in defining the focal liver lesions.

Background: The aim was to investigate which of two different b values (b 500 s/mm² and b 800 s/mm²) are more effective in the differentiation of benign-malignant nodules using Diffusion-Weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging (DW-MRI).

Materials And Methods: Patients presenting with a preoperative diagnosis of nodular goiter or multinodular goiter were included in this study. These patients underwent neck MRI examinations, and their cases were analyzed retrospectively.

In vivo diffusion MRI of the human heart using a 300 mT/m gradient system.

Magn Reson Med

September 2024

Biomedical Imaging Science Department, Leeds Institute of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine, University of Leeds, Leeds, UK.

Purpose: This work reports for the first time on the implementation and application of cardiac diffusion-weighted MRI on a Connectom MR scanner with a maximum gradient strength of 300 mT/m. It evaluates the benefits of the increased gradient performance for the investigation of the myocardial microstructure.

Methods: Cardiac diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) experiments were performed on 10 healthy volunteers using a spin-echo sequence with up to second- and third-order motion compensation ( and ) and , and 1000 (twice the commonly used on clinical scanners).

Background: Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is associated with the development of benign (BPNST) and malignant (MPNST) peripheral nerve sheath tumors. Recently described atypical neurofibromas (ANF) are considered pre-malignant precursor lesions to MPNSTs. Previous studies indicate that diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) can reliably discriminate MPNSTs from BPNSTs.

Purpose: To compare the qualitative and quantitative features of peripheral lesions on localized (L) and whole-body (WB) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in people with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) and schwannomatosis.

Materials And Methods: This is a retrospective, HIPAA compliant study with twenty-seven patients (14 women, 13 men; mean age (years): 38 (3-67)) who underwent both L-MRI and WB-MRI without interval treatment. WB-MRI and L-MRI were comprised of T1-weighted, fat suppressed (FS) T2-weighted or short tau inversion recovery (STIR), diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) using b-values of 50, 400, and 800 s/mm2, apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) mapping and pre- and post-contrast FST1 sequences.

Purpose: The purpose of this prospective study was to determine the capabilities of intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) MRI at 3 Tesla in discriminating between IgG4-related orbital disease (IgG4-ROD) and other causes of orbital inflammation.

Materials And Methods: Main selection criteria for the patients enrolled in this prospective study were age over 18 years and histopathologicaly proven orbital inflammatory lesion. MRI examinations were performed prior to surgery and treatment in all patients with suspected orbital inflammation.
