The National Patient Safety Foundation presented its 2009 Socius Award to the Medical College of Georgia (MCG Health). The award was given in recognition of the positive manner in which MCG Health collaborates with patients and families. The success achieved by MCG Health detailed in this article can motivate other hospital leaders, and the examples of collaboration can serve as templates for developing similar programs.

Lemongrass (Poaceae) is one of the aromatic plants with strong odors. Traditionally, lemon grass oil has been used for the treatment of many diseases such as gastrointestinal cramps, high blood pressure, high body temperatures, and fatigue, and is also considered an antibacterial and anti-diarrheal agent. Strongyloidiasis is a parasitic nematode infection mainly caused by Strongyloides stercoralis. Immunocompromised conditions, particularly cancer patients treated with chemotherapy and corticosteroids, have a significant risk of developing Strongyloides hyperinfection. The lack of a gold standard laboratory method to rule out this infection and the insensitivity of microscopic stool examination due to low and intermittent larvae output in stool contribute to the low detection rate of this infection.
